An end of an era.

"Holy carp, I am fantastical bummed out. This is almost like the death of a loved one."

Yes, a successful mission, but a sad moment. Obama is probably asking what's for lunch and, somewhere, Putin is smiling wider and wider as soon he will have the only way we can go into space,

Could this be the begining of the end for NASA?

Tombstone for America’s space program.

Obama’s directive to NASA to make outreach to Muslims their highest priority was a good candidate for “the beginning of the end for NASA”...

You got it. When Obama decided to put that silly directive out, that was ONE SIGN it was the begining of its end. Outreach is NOT a job for NASA.

Here’s a big ping to all the engineers and support teams who dreamed, designed, built and maintained Discovery. What a great space flight vehicle!

Unbelievably beautiful. Such an amazing flying machine coming down in those lovely blue Florida skies. It's almost dreamlike the way that baby just floats in there.

This country is throwing away its technological lifeblood by turning away from the stars. Now we have to rely on our former rivals to hitch rides up into LEO. To think that at one time we were a nation that flew people all the way out to the surface of the Moon and back. Now we have to pay through the nose to bum rides from the Russians. Pretty sad. Criminal, actually.

I didn’t leave Columbia out because I forgot about it, but because there was no video (at least real-time) of the Shuttle. All we saw was stunned ground control personnel.

Deke Slayton was a desk jockey govt worker. A double dipper. The Germans did all teh work while desk jockeys at NASA like Deke took the glory.

Sounds like John Glenn. He was never in the league of Armstrong, Lovell, Schirra, Al Shepherd.
