My grandmother tells the story that back in the 30s or 40s

In a small south Texas town named Goliad, there is a large old oak tree in the town square, right next to the town offices and courthouse.
The old tree is called the hanging tree, as since the mid 1800’s as soon as the guilty verdict was written, the prisioner was marched out to the hanging tree.
Justice was served within ten minutes of a verdict!
The new generations have been taught that anything goes and there is no morality. What did people think would happen?
