DHARMSALA, India (AP) -- The Dalai Lama said Thursday that he will be giving up his political role in Tibet's government-in-exile, shifting that power to an elected representative.
The Tibetan spiritual leader, speaking on the anniversary of the 1959 Tibetan uprising against Chinese rule in the Himalayan region, said the time has come "to devolve my formal authority to the elected leader."

The idea of a single elected leader of Buddhism seems so opposite of its value. Especially, the idea of a supposed Buddhist leader who accepts the Communist control over his land, unless one accepts Communism as suffering.
Take care. Be good. Whatever.
I’ve had the honor of meeting the Dali Lama more than once and my feeling coming away is the fundamental belief that he is wrong for all the right reasons. He is altruistic for false beliefs. He gives up freedom for false virtue. BUT, he is true. A warm man, full of love, but on the wrong path. He would sacrifice others because he believes they have other lives to try again for his mistakes.
“He is altruistic for false beliefs. He gives up freedom for false virtue.”
He’s also a Marxist, which fits in nicely with what you said. I read he adopted it for moral reasons.
Marxist is too simple of a term for him. He sacrifices his own self interest for altruism but doesn’t understand that he gives it up for others. It is the age-old monk standard that crosses many religions in that a leader leads to others’ sacrifice. It is hard for a westerner to understand, but he believes the sacrifice to self is bigger than the standing up for self. He is very true and frankly, a lovable person, but so wrong it is sad. He is not John Galt.
Sounds like a good move. He kept putting his foot in his mouth.
It is contradictory.
I responded to post#2. Take a breath and respond please.
‘Especially, the idea of a supposed Buddhist leader who accepts the Communist control over his land, unless one accepts Communism as suffering.’
One gets the feeling he isn’t too thrilled about it; on the other hand, somehow I get the feeling that there isn’t a whole lot he can do about it...
Just aging, the wheel keeps turning.
It’s been my good fortune to be in
his presence three times this life
and have always come away a better person.
Garbage.
??? Do you have something to add or are you
just expressing the state of your mind?
The long suffering of the “D”, like the long March suffer’s of Mao’s time has finaly come to an end and he will long enjoy the fruits of collective labor, rather than live off the support of the oppressed. The communist coffers will pour blessing upon him.
Profound statement. I agree. He has been an obstacle to the freedom of Tibet.
Can’t read the linked article, so I couldn’t help but wonder who the 15th Dalai Lama will be. Anyhow, I hope the new government-in-exile wasn’t also Nazi-influenced and will not take any more violent measures to make their way.

Oh, sorry, I don’t know how but the message was sent out thrice.
