I stayed in Kona a few months ago in a place right on the water. I wonder if it is still there.

Apparently warnings have been posted for the entire West Coast of the US — California, Oregon, Washington.

Anyone affected — please be safe. Evacuate if you’re told to do so. Bravery is not a good idea in a tsunami.

Wow - I was just looking at Maui yesterday as a possible honeymoon location. I hope everyone is okay and gets to safe land without any problems.

No big deal. Nothing to see here. Time to move on . . .

Wait a few months and get a bag of popcorn. The show will get better. Electromagnetic solar activity will increase not decrease. Algore is a greedy carbon trading profiteer and total raging idiot.

Do the waves get smaller the longer the tsunami travels?

We own a ground floor condo on Kaanapali in Maui which we spend two weeks in every April. We’ve seen storms wash away the beach sand from time to time but nothing worse. I pray that is all that happens. Oh, and the parking garage sits underground, below sea level.

Do the waves get smaller the longer the tsunami travels?

Yes, as a general rule. it is basically an energy wave and as with any energy it will dissipate over time and distance.

However, coastal topography can greatly diminish or exaggerate the incoming tsunami, and you may see larger wave heights at far distant locations from others based on that.

depending on the sea bed, they get larger as the wave energy builds over a 5000 mile trip. When they reach the shallows of the continental shelf, the waves shoal, break, rebuild and shoal and break again

remember there are continuing aftershocks off Japan in the 6.5 range- generating more waves - that is why Japan remains under tsunami conditions
