WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama voiced condolences to Japan Friday for the people who perished in a massive earthquake, saying the United States "stands ready to help" in any way it can.

At the same time, Obama said in a statement that his administration will "continue to closely monitor tsunamis around Japan and the Pacific going forward" and he directed the Federal Emergency Management Agency to be ready to help if U.S. states or territories are struck.

"The friendship and alliance between our two nations is unshakeable," he [Obama] said, "and only strengthens our resolve to stand with the people of Japan as they overcome this tragedy."

Nice. We have 15 trillion in debt. I hope that we keep this in mind. We have ships and military personnel that certainly can help and should help, but please no money. We can’t afford it. Japan probably doesn’t need cash but just resources to help.

Let’s crank up those printing presses again. The dollar needs a little more devaluation.

Freepers are usually on top of the news before any media gets hold. Freepers Rock!

A very risky move. Closely monitoring Japan with the possibility of actually assisting them is likely to anger Kim Jong Il and the NK’s. Likely O will not risk this and will retreat back into his hiding closet.

“Closely monitoring.” I love that. But it’s not limited to Obama. Bureaucrats and agencies are always saying “We’re monitoring the situation” as if there is anything they could actually do about it.

Radiation levels at the Tokaimura nuclear fuel-processing plant in north-east Japan are 15,000 times higher than normal.

A government request for help from US military forces in Japan for help was turned down. The US said its forces were not equipped to handle such accidents.

When Japan recovers he will claim some credit and the media will give it to him. Meanwhile if the western US were to get a bad hit he would be blameless.

How soon before the elites start blaming global warming for the quake and trying to make it Bush’s fault?

7th Fleet Postures Forces following Japan Earthquake and Tsunami

http://www.c7f.navy.mil/news/2011/03-march/018.htm

To reiterate, this is simply a posturing of forces. 7th Fleet currently has no direction to conduct disaster response operations. Such a direction would come only following a request from the Government of Japan.
