I lived in Sendai, Japan as a small child, and still have a few vivid memories of the place. I experience a great deal of melancholy and sadness, looking at the pictures and video of the destruction there.

I looked at that airport on google earth.

Just to put it in perspective, the pic looks to be taken at 1.4 KM. It measures just about one mile from left to right.

Most of the others look to be about the same scale.

I feel sick looking at those photos. People were in those houses when they were suddenly swept away. What can we do to help, other than pray?
