Former manager: Palin added to 'short list' for gender balance
Politico ^ | 2011-03-12

Aides to John McCain initially added Sarah Palin to his "short list" of potential running mates because McCain wanted a woman on the list, according to his campaign manager.

McCain entered the vice presidential selection process with a list of five possibilities: Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Michael Bloomberg, Charlie Crist, and Joe Lieberman, according to Washingtonian's profile (which isn't online) of Washington lawyer A.B. Culvahouse, who led the search.

"As the clock was running out, [campaign manager Rick] Davis say McCain asked to have at least one woman on the short list. His advisers went back to the long list and plucked out Palin's name," the magazine reported.

No doubt he made the correct pick; but, his list of five just gives us another indication of who the real McCain is-I mean Bloomberg, Lieberman, etal-get real, McCrazy.

McCain will go down in history for one thing only: He brought Palin to the forefront of politics.

That the candidate would have ever even considered LIEberman confirms everything we think about the loser.

Tim Pawlenty, Mitt Romney, Michael Bloomberg, Charlie Crist, and Joe Lieberman

If that was his short list, thank goodness someone changed his mind. He still would not have won with any of them.

McCain never had any intention of winning that election. His “team” picked Palin because they thought it would hurt their chances.

It is truly a shame that people do not know how popular Palin was for her policies BEFORE McCain tapped her for VP. She had a rating above 85% in Alaska before Obama unleashed his thugs.

Knowles (the Dem she defeated) had someone in his camp and on his payroll who knew the lay of the land. Her name was Anita Dunn.

When McCain named Palin to the ticket, the logical thing that was said to the Democrats, via Anita Dunn was “Oh shit. We have to destroy her. Period.”

I say this as a note of caution. Especially to those Michele Bachmann fans. (And I am a fan of hers) She has not been vetted, nationally. And there are some things that will be problematic, starting with her spouse.

Palin is the only Republican candidate (provided we can get her to run) that will give us NO surprises. None of the others have gone through the colonoscopy that Palin has.

One of the comments at the article puts it in perspective:

The problem with the Republican ticket in 2008 was at the top of the ticket. 60% of the people McCain was seriously considering aren't even Republicans!

I honestly have trouble considering McNuts being a Republican!

I don't know if that's true, but he certainly campaigned harder, more enthusiastically, and more effectively for his Senate seat in 2010 than he did for the White House.

Jonathan Martin and Politico continue
their out-of-control and destructive attacks on
Gov. Palin for who? who?

“And The Most Irresponsible Journalist Award Goes to The Politico’s Jonathan Martin!
So tell me, how do you write a “news” story about an organization paying for a speaker when you don’t even know if the organization is paying for the speaker?
Ask “journalist” Jonathan Martin. He knows all about it.
You see, Jonny wrote a piss poor story the other day about how the Iowa Family Policy Center will be paying a large speaker fee if Sarah Palin comes to Iowa to keynote the IFPC’s fall funderaiser.
The only problem is that Jonny has no sources confirming that any exorbitant fee is being charged or paid.
Jonny also got some inside info from David Kochel, who was a top aide to former (and future) presidential candidate, Mitt Romney.
Hey Dave, didn’t I just read a story about how Mitt Romney tried to buy off the Iowa Christian Alliance?
I heard you helped facilitate that little scheme. And somehow you are shocked at the thought of a well-known political figure (who very likely isn’t running for president) getting paid a speaker’s fee for (gasp) a public speaking appearance? ..
and then we’ve got Tim Albrecht quoted. He was the Iowa spokesman for Romney’s 2008 caucus campaign.”
And it always seemed like, whenever the Romney people had rumors they wanted to start about other candidates,
Jonny was their go-to guy to get those rumors in writing in front of a national audience.

"Who's the Palin Leaker from the McCain Campaign?
National Review Online The publication of a Vanity Fair profile of Sarah Palin
appears to have opened old wounds in the McCain campaign.
... the source of the “Diva” leak was Nicolle Wallace’s husband."

Who benefits most from Sanford meltdown? Californian (that's right) Mitt Romney

Juan McCain is the biggest joke in the Republican party. It’s amazing how he turned into a conservative right after the November elections.
