HUNTSVILLE, AL -- A national catfish farmers' organization said proposed legislation by U.S. Sen. John McCain favors inadequate food safety requirements and ignores findings of banned substances in imported catfish products.
"It is stunning that Senator McCain has chosen to protect importers and Vietnamese farmers over the health and safety of American citizens," said Butch Wilson, newly elected president of the Catfish Farmers of America.

No offense but catfish aren’t the safest fish in the world to eat if you’re worried about that kind of stuff, to begin with.

This is about the FDA Food Takeover Bill:
—
Wait until you see the effects of HR2748/S.510/HR2751 FDA Food Takeover Bill passed in the Lame Duck Session. Passed the Senate with a voice vote, they did not want to be identified as voting for this mess. It was read into an unrelated bill (HR2751) when it went back to the House and then that passed the Senate again. And was signed into law by the resident of 1600 Penn. Ave.
Cost of this? 1.4 billion dollars with 17,000 new food inspectors (most foreign based), paid for by fees on producers. Those fees will simply be passed on to consumers. Sold on the pretence of food safety against terrorist attacks.
Just wait....
I don't consume any imported farm raised fish!
Not stunning at all when you are for sale to the highest bidder.
What?
Polyculture grown fish that have feasted on turds and other lovely stuff is not appealing to you?
As was said, the jokes write themselves.
I always check to see where the fish comes from, but even that is tricky anymore. Make sure you know where it was raised, not just where it was produced or distributed from. The attached video explains why you need to take these precautions. BTW, China is no better than Vietnam.

I say sprinkle some lemon pepper and garlic on the issue.
And they are certainly the least tasty. It is just never on my menu.

Even less safe is crawfish. Think about it. These are filtering creatures who are raised on rice fields which prob. sees more pesticides per square inch than any other crop.
Well, it’s not really a surprise. McCain was a prisoner of the Vietnamese, but he led the effort to abandon our POW/MIAs and to open Communist Vietnam to trade. And I believe he was well rewarded for his work.
Perhaps he still has connections with businesses that import from Vietnam. Or is just doing a favor for some old pals.
Sen. John McChurian Candidate
Usually, the ones in my fry pan come out of the same river that the bass and trout do. The same river we swim in and the same water that filters through the ground to our water well. Four generations have lived here but yeah, you're right, something must have killed off that first generation at 90-something.
I can remember granny would go out fishing in the rain and come back in with her raincoat pockets stuffed with catfish. She'd dump them in the kitchen sink and head back out for more. Funniest thing ever!
Strange that Juan would concern himself with an obscure issue such as this: imported Vietnamese catfish? Why is he even thinking about this? Much have something to do with the Arizona importer of Vietnamese catfish, and/or some residual Stockholm Syndrome issues.
“I’ve seen the fish farms in China...”
I read some reports that the Chinese feed the fish human excrement if the fish are “farm raised”? I don’t eat anything from China.
Wise decision. You just don't know what you are getting. I even threw out cast iron pots when I saw they were made in China.
