Why is there no looting in Japan?
Telegraph ^ | March 14, 2011

The landscape of parts of Japan looks like the aftermath of World War Two; no industrialised country since then has suffered such a death toll. The one tiny, tiny consolation is the extent to which it shows how humanity can rally round in times of adversity, with heroic British rescue teams joining colleagues from the US and elsewhere to fly out.

And solidarity seems especially strong in Japan itself. Perhaps even more impressive than Japan’s technological power is its social strength, with supermarkets cutting prices and vending machine owners giving out free drinks as people work together to survive. Most noticeably of all, there has been no looting, and I’m not the only one curious about this.

This is quite unusual among human cultures, and it’s unlikely it would be the case in Britain. During the 2007 floods in the West Country abandoned cars were broken into and free packs of bottled water were stolen. There was looting in Chile after the earthquake last year – so much so that troops were sent in; in New Orleans, Hurricane Katrina saw looting on a shocking scale.

Why do some cultures react to disaster by reverting to everyone for himself, but others – especially the Japanese – display altruism even in adversity?

There is a difference between scavenging and looting. A thirsty man taking water for himself is scavenging. Grabbing a big screen TV is looting. Unfortunately there is a line someplace between a six pack of bottled water big tub of Heineken.

6 Looting arrests in New York City on Sept. 11; by Oct. 11, 54 more had been made. Very low numbers in my opinion but looting did exist.

There was looting after 9-11. It was in the abandoned office building around the site. There was nothing to loot at the site it was all dust. Not well published.

And like DW, it has some very strict rules to be observed.
It comes down to freedom vs. security. Make your choice.............

Japanese culture is based on honor. U.S. culture is based on entitlements and handouts.

With effort and persistence children can be educated so that they accept almost anything.

In Japan, it appears that they have managed to raise children who believe in honor, and community. When those values are instilled at a young age, they become the person’s very nature.

In the US, the liberals have taken over the schools and raised several generations that believe in socialism, victimhood, and reliance on the government. Those traits are becoming the very nature of people in the US.

Sad

Then there is probably looting going in Japan but at very low and unreported levels as well.

Because nobody is interested in looting twisted metal and debris mixed up with bodies? That sounds terrible, I know, but there’s no other way to say it.

It is called CIVIL-ization.

Definition of CIVIL

1

a : of or relating to citizens

b : of or relating to the state or its citizenry (civil strife)

2

a : civilized (civil society)

b : adequate in courtesy and politeness : mannerly (a civil question)

Note this last definition. Most people visiting Japan remark on this very thing

Given the tempered responses so far it is safe to say DOJ head Holder may have been right when he said we were cowards when it came to discussing race.

It is not the elephant in the room we are ignoring but the fear of being called a racist for observing and stating the obvious.

Used to accepting things. Used to dependence on the government to take care of them ...
My first reaction was that you're probably 99% wrong so I did a little reading and found this story - Welfare as Japan Knows It.
Although it was printed in 1996, I'm now thinking you're 99.99% wrong.
