NEW YORK -- The rapid growth of smartphones and electronic tablets is making the Internet the destination of choice for consumers looking for news, a report released Monday said.

Local, network and cable television news, newspapers, radio and magazines all lost audience last year, according to the Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research organization that evaluates and studies the performance of the press. News consumption online increased 17 percent last year from the year before, the project said in its eighth annual State of the News Media survey.

Unfiltered, raw, without sanitized comments and newsie interpretation.

I only watch TV news (cable) for headlines. Otherwise, I am using the Internet and FR for real news.

The state run media deserves to die.
I kept finding more and more people who don't believe a word they say anymore.

Our local paper is so far to the Left it's almost like they're trying to be funny.

I laugh out loud when I see their Left of Mao articles. They are extremely desperate to keep the old 1968 hippie politics alive. The ridicule against we Conservatives is hilarious at times. 1970’s Pravda is Centrist compared to our local paper.

I think people only buy it for the coupons in the Sunday paper.

#2 to what as #1, the MSM? I find that hard to believe.

I get all my news from the internet with FR the first place I look each day.

Cable doesn’t even have news anymore.

I remember when CNN was brand new. You could tune in 24 hours a day and find compelling domestic and internation news.

How much news does CNN or Fox have today? Next to none. Somebody name a Fox news show? Maybe Brett Baier. Every other show is just commentary and analyisis. You can tune in to CNN or Fox about 23 hours a day and get nothing but commentary and analyis.

Nobody wants to actually write or research news anymore. It is all about giving some hairdo a seat to puke up their spin on a thing or 2 a day.

If CNN went back to its format from 1980, I would watch it in a heartbeat, bias and all. At least I would be getting news.

There is NO SOURCE on TV where you can get news today more than a slim hour a day, possibly repeated later. Other than that, you just get hour after hour of talking heads.

That is not news and that is not worth my money. That is a huge reason why I cancelled cable TV. I never could find news on TV while with the internet, hardcore news detailing names, places and events, is at my fingertips.

TV is lost. They have no clue how to report actual news anymore. It is all just some version of Bill O’Reilly or the Lehrer News Hour.
