I didn't say crass, or relying on shock value like the F-word. I said "insenstive".
As far as my age, I've had great fun introducing my kids to classic comedies like the Beverly Hillbillies and Andy Griffin, which insensitively makes fun of both country folk and city folk. Or the Pink Panther series, which insensitively makes fun of the French, government and spies. Or the Get Smart series, which insensitively makes fun of Germans (certain Chaos members), and various others. But they weren't crass and they didn't rely on shock value.
They were funny. But if people wore chips on their shoulders then, like they do now, we probably would have had protests against them. And I didn't even touch on Laugh-In or All in the Family.
Gottfried's remark (at least the one in the article) didn't even stereotype anybody. It was no different than all the maps posted on FR of Florida having moved next to the Dakotas and saying "had enough" after a string of Hurricanes. It was just too early. They are still dealing with the crisis.
Guess they can hire that jug eared communist muslim in the White House to shill for them, he's going to be unemployed soon.
“I was surprised to learn that, according to FNC at least, that Aflac is the largest insurer in Japan.”
Their Japanese subsidiary, AFRAC ? [rim shot]
Sorry.
I once had a conversation with an oriental guy at work. He was mad about some bad documentation. As he was jumping up and down, he yelled “I don’t unnerstand. It’s in prain engrish!” I had to walk away.
Any time Howard Stern had Gilbert on was absolutely side splitting. Japan is not high on my sensitivity list. Guess it was the Guadalcanal vets in my family.
Oh, come on. I remember libs doing jokes like this after 9/11 or, even worse, opining at how it was “our fault” they attacked.
Bill Maher does this crap relentlessly and still has a job. The jokes were just stupid and besides, who even knows Gottfried was the voice of the duck?
Gottfried was a corporate spokesman for a company that does a ton of business in Japan. Aflac does not want controversy and there are a lot of people that can quack Aflac.
Oh, I’m not saying he shouldn’t be fired, I just hate their “explanation” when they should tell the truth as you said “we make a lot of money in Japan”.
