“Roadkill” by The Horse Flies

Bone break crushing
and the skin is ripping
and the heart’s still pumping
and the blood is dripping from a
roadkill

Thank you lord
for this beautiful meal
There’s a dog on the table
and he died by the wheel
He’s a roadkill

Blood on your bumper
and hair on your wheels
Come on baby
do you know how it feels
to eat roadkill

To get a Christmas dinner
well, we didn’t have to look far
One of Santa’s reindeer
had got hit by a car
Roadkill

Don’t blame me if I
swing at Bambi
I’m just a man
trying to feed my family
Roadkill

It’s too late
to hit the brakes
Looks like we’re
gonna eat some steak
It’s roadkill

I got me a rib
stuck through my tire
It will taste good
on the fire
It’s roadkill

It’s a meal for twenty
You can share it with your honey
It’ll save you money
from the land of plenty
Roadkill

Eat what you kill, eat what you kill
Our auto ate today, our auto ate today
Our auto, our auto
Our auto ate today, our auto ate today

If it’s to the left
of the little yellow line
You can bet that it’s a tender
You can bet that it’s a fine
Little roadkill

If you are the receiver
of a little dead beaver
You can eat it now
or you can throw it in the freezer
It’s a roadkill

Bone break crushing
and the skin is ripping
and the heart’s still pumping
and the blood is dripping
from a roadkill

Eat what you kill
Eat what you kill
Eat what you kill

I’ve seen the number of around 334 Megatons.

Good poem. I never saw or heard it before.
(maybe growing up in Chicago had something to do with that)

ps: your PING scared the bejeezus out of me.
Thought I did/said something wrong :-)

It’s from a band called the Horse Flies. Genre of punk bluegrass if you can believe that.

Thanks. Cool song [which is what I meant, not 'poem' (duh!].
Good band, I bookmarked the YouTube video. And gave it a 'Thumbs Up'.

I'm going to have to listen to some of their others that's uploaded.

I favor the Blues (and 'Classic' Rock). But also like Country and good Bluegrass.

I saw them live once. The banjo player also had several Telecasters strung and tuned like banjos and plays banjo licks on them - it took me about half a set to realize that. The fiddle player can actually sing backup while playing fiddle. Very talented bunch. And very outgoing - they don’t act like rock stars.

I saw that too, but the numbers I posted were from a conversion the USGS did from joules (at something to the 23rd power) to teratons. Who knows? They may have misplaced the decimal.

In Maryland we have a law where you can take home and eat whatever you hit, so long as it gets tagged by a state trooper.

Things get a little weird if your tire tracks are going into somebody’s Angus pasture, though.

A freshly hit deer on the road after dark has a “lifespan” of about 10 minutes, max, tag or no tag.

Somebody always snatches ‘em up.

I’ve been a member here at Free Republic for going on 13 years now, and it has been my experience that the Admin Moderator does not participate in the conversations in threads.

In my experience, the best Admin Moderators are not seen or heard from unless it necessary to post a “No Thanks” when zotting a thread.

In my experience, the appearance of an Admin Moderator on a thread does not mean good things for someone, and it is extremely unusual to find an Admin Mod romping on the floor with the rest of the brats.

In my experience, and in the circles I run in here at FR, it is considered somewhat cowardly to hide behind an Admin Moderator when posting, instead of logging in under your regular Freeper identity and joining the crowd on a level playing field.

If there has been a change in the Admin Moderator policy that I missed, I certainly apologize and look forward to someone directing me to the pertinent Free Republic policy post that covers this.

If not, I recommend most strongly that the duty Admin Moderators continue with the policy they have followed since FR was started, and remain on the sidelines as the silent, inviolate and impartial judges that you always have been.

If there is a problem among the Admin Moderators, I would also strongly urge you to police yourselves more closely, and train your new Admin Moderators about how to conduct themselves, and stop this immediately.

Thank You.
