NPR: tripped up by its own elitism
NY Post ^ | March 14, 2011 | Juan Williams

Posted on 03/15/2011 4:16:02 AM PDT by Scanian

It just keeps happening. NPR's leader ship keeps tripping over its microphone wires and then asking everybody else to plug them back in.

I know everybody thinks I must be in a vindictive mood, celebrating the sudden departure of NPR CEO Vivian Schiller after her handpicked personal fund-raiser was caught on tape disparaging Tea Party activists and Jews and taking more shots at me. I'm human and do have some thoughts, but it's OK to keep them to myself: Schiller's very public missteps allow everyone to draw their own conclusions about her.

I'm not being vindictive when I say that NPR's leaders had become ingrown and arrogant to the point that they lost sight of journalism as the essential product of NPR. People like Schiller and Ellen Weiss, the head of news for NPR, who made it her life's work to fire me, came to think of themselves as smarter than anyone else.

They felt no need to answer to any critic. Any approach at variance with their own was considered traitorous and a basis for exiling them to the Gulag -- or, in my case, firing me.

The recent videotape showing NPR chief fund-raiser Ron Schiller (no relation to Vivian Schiller) is just an open microphone on what I've been hearing from NPR top executives and editors for years. They're willing to do anything in service to any liberal with money, and then they'll turn around and in self-righteous indignation claim that they have cleaner hands than anybody in the news business who accepts advertising or expresses a point of view.

Ron Schiller's performance on videotape -- which included lecturing two young men pretending to be Muslims on how to select wine -- is a "South Park"-worthy caricature of the American liberal as an effete, Volvo-driving, wine-sipping, NPR-listening dunderhead.

OK, everybody: Jump all over me for posting an article by Juan Williams.

Before you do, however, at least read the article.

I think he makes a good case for de-funding NPR. As good as any liberal could make, anyway.

Well, maybe there is hope for Juan. Now, if we can just get him to comprehend the concept of PROPERTY...his Liberal days may be over.

Wow. In his old age, Juan has grown half a brain.

Half.

No need to jump all over you at all. Juan has finally started to see the light and call it the light as well. I figure the excrement sandwich finally got too much for him as well. The proof in that puddin’ was just seeing the look on his face during the whole interview Hannity did with him the day after the tape was released.

As far as Williams is concerned, he falls into the same camp as Gorbachov did with Reagan. He has a long way to go to lose the verify portion of my good graces. What I really wonder about are the private conversations Juan is having with Brit Hume. (Geez, I miss those weekly smackdowns)

If he hadn’t been fired he would still be fine working where it was the jews who were disparaged by the so called elites. Of course, he considered himself one of those elites before he got the ax.

For now Juan the crash dummy ought to just shut up.

William’s column reminds me of the old saw that a conservative is often a liberal who has been mugged. Williams was unceremoniously dumped and left in the gutter by a “liberal” (read “socialist”) system which he had faithfully served for years. But, judging from his latest comments, I’m not sure that he has yet fully absorbed the life lesson.

NPR needs their books audited with a fine tooth comb.

Juan may be a liberal but he’s rational and a decent human being.

Juan might be a liberal, but at least he's our liberal.

They created an anti-intellectual environment that took delight and pride in censoring journalists like me for honestly admitting that people dressed in Muslim garb make me nervous at airports.

Anti-intelectual? Say it ain't so Juan!!!!!!

Honesty?

How do you make a conservative angry? Lie to him. How do you make a liberal angry? Tell him the truth.

I’d like to believe that but from what I can see, he seems to be rubbing off on FNC’s “conservatives” more than they are rubbing off on him.

The Murdoch papers are better than the LSM scumt in their editorial philosophy if not their layout or proofreading.

You're right. I watch FOX so infrequently, that when I DO tune in, I am always surprised at how Liberal they have begun to sound.

It my be an imperceptible shift for regular viewers, but it is pretty astonishing to ME!!

That's when I congratulate myself on having tunned them out so long ago.

It was a great sting and we got a peek inside the DC Brie and Chablis crowd.
