Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) has another Democratic challenger: a 28-year-old accountant who is making his first run for public office.
Patrick Murphy started a campaign site this week and put out a video welcome message, outlining his case for election.
"I love my country. I love South Florida, and I'm not going to stand by while right-wing extremists like Allen West continue to divide us," he said.
Murphy is considered a dark-horse candidate in the race. A handful of other Democrats are considering getting into the race against West — one of two black Republican members of Congress elected in 2010.
West, a former Army officer, rode a wave of Tea Party support to defeat Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) in the midterms. He is already a top target for Democrats in the 2012 cycle.
Other potential West opponents include Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon (D), former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel (D) and state Rep. Joe Abruzzo (D). Klein has also not officially ruled out a bid, but he joined a law and lobbying firm this week, making a run less likely.
Patrick Daniel, another dark horse, has also filed papers to run.

I love when DemocRATs pontificate about how “extremist right-wingers” are “dividing” the country when division of the country is their MO. Who else pits young against old, men against women, poor against rich, black against white, etc? That is how these people gain and maintain their power by keeping the country divided and angry at one another.
Apparently not enough to serve in its military....as Col. West did.
Wow. The Rats are pulling out all the stops. This accountant Leftist should really be able to stand up to the meek and timid West during a debate. Hilarious. The rest of the potential challengers look like hack backbenchers as well.

Jumps right in hollering about divisiveness, which of course is what he is pushing.

You are right. But what is the solution?
The 24 hour news cycle and 4 cable news networks have as much to do with it as anything. They’ve got to fill all that time with something and electoral speculation is one way to so it.
Of course, this Murphy actually joined the fray and was not the object of speculation. He is just answwering the ‘Rat Party’s call to take out Allen.
Well, Allen can take care of himself but we can use him more right now to add some conservatim to the Senate. DeMint wants more company and Rubio would like a conservative stablemate from Florida, I’m sure.
Plus Bill Nelson just sucks.
This constant campaigning is why I have changed my party affiliation from Republicrat to Monarchist.
Now. Where could we find a truly great king?

Except that GOP party membership has effectively stripped the Lt. Col. of his black identity.

It also means he refuses to live on the plantation.
Maybe he knows about the multiple billions of Democrat Slush Fund money from TARP and Porkulus; maybe he knows that whoever gets the nod to run get a nice thick slice of roast Porkulus.
I say let some other conservative try to hold that district.
The House should be in good shape for a while.
The Senate is the fly in the ointment. We could use West there to go after one of the 20-odd Dems up for re-election.
He can beat Nelson hands down.
And a standing US Senator would be a far more worthy challenge for the Lt. Col. to debate than some unknown, 28 year-old accountant.
Allen West is a charismatic candidate and unless he gets shafted by redistricting (very unlikely), I think he’s the favorite.
