Rep. West gets Democratic challenger
The Hill ^ | 03/15/11 | Jordan Fabian

Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) has another Democratic challenger: a 28-year-old accountant who is making his first run for public office.

Patrick Murphy started a campaign site this week and put out a video welcome message, outlining his case for election.

"I love my country. I love South Florida, and I'm not going to stand by while right-wing extremists like Allen West continue to divide us," he said.

Murphy is considered a dark-horse candidate in the race. A handful of other Democrats are considering getting into the race against West — one of two black Republican members of Congress elected in 2010.

West, a former Army officer, rode a wave of Tea Party support to defeat Rep. Ron Klein (D-Fla.) in the midterms. He is already a top target for Democrats in the 2012 cycle.

Other potential West opponents include Palm Beach County Tax Collector Anne Gannon (D), former West Palm Beach Mayor Lois Frankel (D) and state Rep. Joe Abruzzo (D). Klein has also not officially ruled out a bid, but he joined a law and lobbying firm this week, making a run less likely.

Patrick Daniel, another dark horse, has also filed papers to run.

Well, at least Greasy Thumb wasn't laboring to give the government more money; hence he was more honorable...:-)

West or no West, that part of the state is in serious need of redistricting. To call it gerrymandered is an understatement. More like a bowl of spaghetti.
Rick Scott is procrastinating about it. He made “clean” congressional districts a campaign promise and now he is acting like a standard-issue politician about it.
Have the census data been published? If not, it's a bit early to know how many districts FL has - and thus, it's too early to come out with new district lines.

A liberal Democrat congressional candidate named “Patrick Murphy”? *Another* one? We just got rid of liberal Democrat Congressman Patrick Murphy from PA-08 and liberal Democrat Congressman Scott Murphy from NY-20, and hopefully we’ll beat liberal Democrat Congressman Chris Murphy from CT-05 when he runs for the Senate in 2012.

Congress critter West gets my first 2012 campaign donation.

This is a man of honor, and I'd love to see him walk into a meeting with a {permit in his pocket} and pistol on his hip.

Better a congress critter than a congress creep.

The meeting he should “come heavy” to like that would be the Black Congressional Caucus, of which he is a member much to the chagrin of the rest.

He might find it came in handy.

That’s very true about the census.

I’m talking about campaign promises. In January, some legislators tried to pin Scott down about his redistricting intentions and he backed off.

He has been unexpectedly good in a number of areas. I hope that when the time comes he regains his zeal for ending gerrymandering.

‘Can you imagine Florida having TWO minority conservatives as senators?’

Don’t like to put things in racial terms, but if you add in the Governor and the Lt. Governor, the four top GOP leaders in Florida would be a white man an hispanic man, a black man, and a black woman — a rainbow coalition`!

Just some little prick thrown into the fray to disrupt West’s moment.

Democratic challenger: a 28-year-old accountant

I'm sure Col. West is just worried to death. Not. This is a classic example of men vs boys. I'm thinking Green Bay Packers vs Cornell (The Big Red).

So some accountant no one ever heard of files for a public office and it’s a story? Gotta love the MSM.

I don’t really care much about the identity politics either. Except to the extent that it infuriates the Democrat plantation owners.

In this particular case, the best available people just happened to be from the groups you mention. Throw in AG Pam Bondi and the “old boy network” image is shattered even further.

Think West vs. Nelson for senator.

We need a tough conservative like West more in the Senate, where the House bills are going to die with the ‘Rats in control.

You said it! The only party that constantly plays the “race card” is the Progressive/Socialist/DEMS. It is so very obvious. The Democrat Party has always wanted to keep Americans Divided, Depressed, Dependent, and Democrat!

The DEMS just can't handle seeing Conservative Patriots of all colors together! It blows their minds!
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/2687249/posts

The DEMS lost a lot of followers in 2010 and just wait till 2012! Congressman Allen West will not be leaving elected office in 2012 and he will win any office he seeks!

When Congressman Allen West won in 2010, America won!

For those who don't know where your comment came from, and
just in case they missed seeing Congressman West take on a Koran carrying CAIR executive, here it is:

“Dems are going to waste time and money here West is awesome and an intelligent and straight shooter. Nelson is history whether West challenges him or not.”

You betcha! Bill Nelson will be cleaning out his desk in DC following the 2012 election, right along with six other DEM House members from Florida!
