International Reaction to the Itamar Massacre

Itamar massacre victims

On Friday, March 11, 2011, terrorists entered the home of a Jewish family in Itamar and killed five family members, stabbing them to death. The victims were:

Udi Fogel, 36 Ruth Fogel, 35 And three of their children: Yoav Fogel, 11 Elad Fogel, 4 Hadas Fogel, 3 months

The alarm was raised by the couple’s 12-year-old daughter, who had been at an event organized by a religious youth movement on the settlement and returned home to find the bloodsoaked scene. All five had their throats cut. Two more of the family’s children, ages 8 and 2, survived the attack. They were sleeping in a separate bedroom.

The attacker or attackers scaled Itamar’s perimeter fence, triggering an alarm. Settlement security investigated but failed to notify the Israeli military. The intruders waited inside the settlement for some time after identifying their target, then entered the Fogels’ house through a window. Two children were killed first, then the father, who was asleep with his baby daughter, and then the mother, who, it was reported, attempted to shoot the attackers with the family’s gun. The attackers then escaped over the perimeter fence, triggering a second alarm.

Reactions:

Israeli government – Israel is to build hundreds of homes in West Bank settlements in response to the murder of five members of a Jewish settler family, including two children and a baby, believed to be the work of Palestinian militants. The events of the weekend are likely to further push back the prospects of renewed peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. The decision to approve 500 housing units was taken on Saturday night, less than 24 hours after the Fogel family were attacked with knives as they slept in their home in the isolated settlement of Itamar, deep in the West Bank. Some members of the Israeli cabinet pushed for a more radical response to the family’s murder. Interior minister Eli Yishai, of the pro-settlement, rightwing Shas party, said Israel should build “at least a thousand new homes for each person murdered.” The move signals a stiffening of the Israeli government’s stance in the face of international pressure for a gesture to encourage peace talks to resume. The prime minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, had been expected to propose an interim Palestinian state on temporary borders, but analysts suggested that may now be shelved.

Israeli police and military – The area was immediately sealed off by Israeli police and soldiers as a manhunt was launched. Checkpoints were set up on the road leading to Itamar, which was declared a closed military zone. The Israeli army launched an operation in the nearby Palestinian village of Awata early on Saturday, arresting around two dozen young men. Maj Gen Avi Mizrahi of the Israeli military central command said “An innocent family – a father, mother and three of their children – were murdered in the middle of the night by despicable terrorists. Rest assured, we are on a hunt for those responsible, and we will find them.” An IDF officer said ”The children were literally slaughtered. This is one of the most brutal attacks we have ever seen.”

Israel’s Prime Minister – Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a special security meeting to decide upon further action, saying he was “deeply shocked” by the attack. “We all know, as those who want to strike at us will know, that the future of the settlements will not be decided upon by terror,” he said. “Israel will not stand by idly after such a despicable murder and will act vigorously to safeguard the lives of the citizens of Israel and punish the murderers.” Also, regarding incitement of Palestinians to kill Israelis: “…that is going on every day in their schools, in their mosques, in the media outlets they control. It is time to stop this double speak, because the Palestinian Authority speaks peace outwards but allows incitement inwards.” He asked Israelis “to act with restraint and not to take the law into their own hands.” He said he was “disappointed by the weak and mumbled statements” from the Palestinian side, adding, “This is not how one condemns terrorism.” He also said “I expect the international community to sharply and unequivocally condemn this murder, the murder of children. I have noticed that several countries that always hasten to the UN Security Council in order to condemn Israel, the state of the Jews, for planning a house in some locality, or for laying some tiles somewhere have been dilatory in sharply condemning the murder of Jewish infants. I expect them to issue such condemnations immediately, without balances, without understandings, without justifications.”

Israel’s President – Israeli President Shimon Peres called the attack “one of the ugliest we have known. The murder of parents and their little children … indicates a loss of humanity. No religion and no faith in the world condones such atrocious acts.”

Israel’s Defense Minister – Ehud Barak said “This is a horrible attack that makes my blood boil, but I have no doubt that the perpetrators will be captured. We need to do everything so security and quiet can return to the area.”

Local Israeli Mayor – Ron Nachman, mayor of the city of Ariel, arrived in Itamar Saturday noon and expressed anger over the government and defense minister’s conduct. ”We need to find those behind the attack and give them the death penalty. I can’t recall such a horrific terror attack,” he said. Nachman refused to comment on future “price tag” operations of radical rightist, saying: “I am not responsible for violent acts from either side.” NOTE: Israeli settlers sometimes carry out revenge attacks on Palestinian targets, either in retaliation for Palestinian violence or for Israeli government actions against settlers. The attacks, known as “price tag” diplomacy, include vandalism, destruction of crops or physical attacks.

Local Palestinian Mayor – The governor of the nearby Palestinian city of Nablus, Jibril Bakri, told The Associated Press that Palestinian security forces were also searching for suspects. It was a rare instance of the two sides both searching for militant suspects, though Israeli forces and those of the Western-backed Palestinian Authority in the West Bank do cooperate on security issues.

Michael B. Oren, Israel’s Ambassador to the US – The Ambassador also expresses his profound disappointment with Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad and President Mahmoud Abbas, who could not bring themselves to unreservedly condemn the massacre, and the NY Times, which describes the victims, including a two month old baby, as “settlers,” thereby dehumanizing them.

US President Barack Obama – “There is no possible justification for the killing of parents and children in their home. We call on the Palestinian Authority to unequivocally condemn this terrorist attack.”

US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton – “I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the brutal murder of an Israeli family early Saturday morning in the West Bank. The United States condemns this appalling attack in the strongest possible terms. To kill three innocent children and their parents while they sleep is an inhuman crime for which there can be no justification. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the victims and with all the people of Israel. The murderers must be found and brought to justice. Israeli security forces have launched a thorough investigation and we look to the Palestinian authorities to assist in every way possible.”

Gaza – Gaza residents from the southern city of Rafah hit the streets Saturday to celebrate the terror attack in the West Bank settlement of Itamar where five family members were murdered in their sleep, including three children. Residents handed out candy and sweets, one resident saying the joy “is a natural response to the harm settlers inflict on the Palestinian residents in the West Bank.”

Palestine – Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad said he “clearly and firmly denounces the terror attack, just as I have denounced crimes against Palestinians. ”We are against all types of violence,” Fayyad said during a tour in Bethlehem. “Our position has not changed. As we have said many times before, we categorically oppose violence and terror, regardless of the identity of the victims or the perpetrators.”

Hamas – “The report of five murdered Israelis is not enough to punish someone,” said Hamas Spokesperson Sami Abu Zuhri, adding, “However; we in Hamas completely support the resistance against settlers who murder and use crime and terror against the Palestinian people under the auspices of the Israeli occupation soldiers.” Also, “Five Zionist usurpers were killed the morning of Saturday, 12 March 2011, in a knife-stabbing carried out by a Palestinian in the usurper (settlement) of Itamar east of the city of Nablus. Our correspondent in Nablus reported that a Palestinian mujahid was able to break into the usurper (settlement) of “Itamar” south of Nablus in the occupied (West) Bank, and stabbed five Zionist usurpers.” (check that last link for sickening reader comments praising Allah for the massacre)

Fatah – According to an unverified report, Fatah’s military wing – the al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigades – claimed responsibility for the attack. A group spokesman told a Palestinian news agency that a terror cell infiltrated the settlement of Itamar and committed the attack. The spokesperson stressed that the attack “came as a response to Israel’s continues hostile policy toward the Palestinian people.”

New York Times – The killers appeared to have randomly picked the house, one of a neat row of identical one-story homes at the edge of the settlement, on a rocky incline overlooking the nearby Palestinian village of Awarta — the proximity underlining the visceral nature of the contest in this area between Jewish settlers and Palestinians over the land. (headline: “Suspecting Palestinians, Israeli Military Hunts for Killers of 5 West Bank Settlers“) Remember, “settler” is a Muslim term for Jewish people living in the Jewish homeland. Other Israeli children killed by Palestinian terrorists (some graphic content).

Scenes from a Massacre – Power Line blog entry containing a video showing photos of the victims (faces blurred) at the crime scene.

Islamic Jew Hatred – High resolution photos of the victims (faces blurred). “The family has given permission to show these photographs so that civilized men understand what the Jews face from their Islamic enemies.” NOTE: I made sure to look at these for two reasons, 1.) To maintain a level of anger against the animals who perpetrated this crime, and 2.) To not forget that this kind of crime is what those animals and others like them are being trained to do, in their schools, through their news media, and in their mosques.

The Other Tsunami – Dennis Prager article on NRO, discussing how much hatred it takes to murder a baby.

The funeral – The funeral of the five victims drew thousands of people to a cemetery on the edge of Jerusalem, causing gridlock as hundreds tried to get to the burial site up to an hour after the scheduled start of the service. Helicopters passed overhead as Chief rabbi Yona Metzger told the crowd that the attackers had only succeeded in uniting Israelis. Settlement expansion should accelerate in response to the murders, he added. “Another neighbourhood, that’s the answer. More building, that’s the answer,” he said. Reuven Rivlin, the Knesset speaker, said: “We will live, we will continue to build and to plant, we will continue to grip on to the land of Israel. More construction, more life, more hanging on to the land. This is our answer to the murderers.”

How about push all of Palestine which exist now into a dump heap, use the debris to build fireline walls, clear a kill zone, and tell the palistineans to go to a hellhole that wants them, Egypt needs some new terrorist ya know..then build a thousand homes for each killed, and pass a law that these homes will never be removed from Israeli residence in future negotiations...

The fanatical Muslims now refer to legal Jewish citizens by the term ‘settler’. IIRC, Amy Biehl(Fulbright Scholar working with anti-apartheid activists in South Africa) was murdered by more militant Blacks whose slogan was ‘one settler, one bullet’. I’m sure the silence from the rest of the world will be deafening on these newest murders.

‘when they came for me, there was no one left to protest’

Tragically and reprehensibly, way too many in this country have forgotten the horror of 9/11. Evidence of that fact would be the morons who supported the mosque at Ground Zero. One has to ask what will it take for the useful idiots in this country to wake up to the evil that is hell bent on destroying Israel and the USA???

I can close my eyes this very minute and relive the horror I felt watching those innocent people jumping from the top floors of the World Trade Center. How about you?

The news media barely noticed this atrocity. I think that deserves mention, too.

People who gather in the streets to eat sweets and celebrate the murders of small children are perverts. Unfortunately Islam has a profound streak of perversion in its center.

That question needs to be addressed to Republican politicians in this nation. The RINOs are holding hands with democrats and singing cumbia when they need to be aggressively reinstating the rights and freedoms democrats have stolen from us in the past two years. They might as well have been in Illinois with the missing democrats.

If they think conservatives will sit still and allow them to join the money guzzling, Obamacare promoting, greenie, middle east oil buying, globalist traitors, they better get their resumes in order now!!!!!!!

I sure hope their are GOP staffers reading FR right now and I pray they listened to the callers that Rush had today.

We The People are big-time disenchanted with many of the newly elected eunuchs. I think we need to start posting their names so We The People can start aggressively looking for their replacements in 2012.

I not only vividly remember people leaping from the upper floors of the WTC but the thumbing sounds of death as they hit the street pavement below. Can you imagine what this must have felt like for the NYC Fire Department officers and firemen who were in planning sessions to fight the fire in the lobby of the WTC? Seeing a screaming and falling body and then watching and hearing a thud noise of instant death. Oh, by the way, POTUS Obamas Muslim soul brother & supporter, Quadaffi was loving every minute of it. And....if you fools out there think Obama is clean, guess again, for Louie Farrakhan, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Van Jones, James Clyburn, Obama, etc. are all in the family with the evil murderer of American innocents on Pan Am Flight 103 back in 1998. Americans, you really need your heads examined!!!

Next Hamas rally, Fuel Air Explosive.

Then make the tunnels to Egypt one way and “encourage” people to leave.

The international reaction is to ship weapons to the terrorists who committed the mass-murders, or failing that, to blame the victims. Thanks TheConservativeCitizen.

I believe GOP insiders have pure unadulterated intolerance for Tea Party supporters and politicians who speak out against their incredible ineptitude to "get the job done." They MUST be replaced if they do not start to grow a spine. Silence is NOT golden when it agrees with democrats who are dismantling America piece by piece with apparent Republican collusion / agreement. Even the most illiterate American knows the damage bottomless debt causes. Why are our elected buffoons not doing their job??????

Fatah killed these people heartlessly. They also once guarded Obama in his travels there.

Gag on Itamar investigation

Snip: A gag order has been imposed on information connected to the investigation of the brutal slaughter of five members of the Fogel family in Itamar on Friday night.

According to Maan, the militant wings of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and Fatah have all denied involvement in the murders, with the Al-Aqsa Brigades, who originally claimed credit for the barbaric slaughter, saying Monday in a statement that they "oppose the targeting of civilians and killing of children no matter what the pretext may be." There was rejoicing in the streets of Gaza, handing out of sweets  and stated approval on the part of Hamas at the news of the murders.  One day after the terrorist massacre in Itamar, Abbas' Fatah faction named a town square after the jihadist leader of a 1978 bus hijacking in which 35 Israelis were killed.

I’m still p*ssed off! Everytime I see an old show or movie with the Twin Towers, I wonder out loud as to why Mecca is not yet a smoldering crater! They can build their mosque in Perdition, where it belongs!
