>The only result was for them to see “this broad’s mean and crazy” and this guy’s OK. She was hoping to have me at least beaten down and handcuffed if not just shot, though.

Good news.
I have had my own ‘interesting’ incident with the police [sorta] involving a gun.

I was out at a social gathering and was cleaning my handgun; NM is an open-carry state, so there was *NO* way I was violating any law.
Well what happened was one of the group-leaders, whom I respect, said I was making people nervous and should put the gun in my vehicle; I complied thinking that was the end of the matter. It wasn’t.

After everyone had left several people got together and had a ‘meeting’ about the ‘incident’ and decided to call my National Guard until about it, this being while I was still enlisted. Now, after the call went to my unit apparently it made a round or two through the rumor-channels before being forwarded to the police. The police showed up at my home two days after the incident, fortunately I was not at home, as they entered the premises with, I’m told, weapons drawn and would neither identify themselves nor respond to questions presented by the landlady.

Disturbing in multiple ways:
1 — Police action based on triple-hearsay... MOBILIZE ON RUMORS!
2 — Warrantless entry/search of private property.
3 — Refusal to ID themselves.
4 — In response to a PERFECTLY LEGAL ACTION.

That is strange. My case is one of this ex still looking for revenge for things which never even happened - almost 17 years after our divorce. There was a more recent occasion where I could not reach my daughter by phone and it was important enough to drive across town to check as to whether she was at a certain friend’s house. I got a call two days later from someone who’d been told that I “went looking for my daughter with a gun”. The ex tries to use the word “gun” to stir up any kind of trouble for me possible. It has never worked, but she’s too stupid to quit trying.
