Why did the press ignore murderous rampage just outside nation’s capital?

On February 10, 2011, Prince William County police arrested Jose Oswaldo Reyes Alfaro, 37, after he allegedly went on a shooting and stabbing spree which left three people dead and three others wounded. When he was taken into custody, the Salvadoran national had in his possession, a machete as well as a .38 caliber revolver...According to Manassas Police Chief Doug Keen, the suspect was ordered deported in 2002, but was never detained by federal immigration authorities and never left, despite two more arrests after his deportation order....

After only a brief mention the day after the attacks occurred, this case disappeared completely from newsrooms across the country. Why would the American press simply ignore a case in which a man running through the streets of a Washington D.C. suburb with a machete and a gun, left innocent victims both dead and severely wounded in his path?

Are the facts considered too gruesome for human consumption?...Could it be the fact that this case may demonstrate more clearly than any other to the American people why it is so important to fiercely defend our borders and actually enforce existing immigration laws?

Or, could it be as Virginia state Delegate Jackson Miller (R-Manassas) described it, the day after the attacks, when Del. Jackson said: “It’s another abject failure of the federal government. Now we have three innocent victims in my city, about a mile from my house there’s a murderous rampage. I am furious. … Yet it happens over and over and over again, and then we have to hear all of these apologetic excuses as to why we shouldn’t be addressing criminal illegal aliens on the state or local level. It’s just disgusting.”...

The story was briefly mentioned by the Wash Post and local TV and then disappeared. There was no national coverage. Imagine if the perp had been of another ethnicity, say, Anglo or Asian.

Actually, if you take time out of your busy schedule to click on the link provided, you learn that the victims were:

-Brenda Ashcraft, 56, pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wounds;

-William Ashbey Ashcroft, 37, died in route to the hospital;

-34-year-old woman, gunshot wound, survived;

-15-year-old girl, gunshot wound, survived.

-Julio Cesar Ulloa, 48, pronounced dead at the scene from gunshot wound;

-77-year-old unidentified woman, suffered stab wounds, severe lacerations to the head, survived.

I (for one) am happy that as Americans, we were able to extend an opportunity for this poor, downtrodden, soul to sneak into this Country and enjoy the bounty of our wealth while providing him with the necessary tools to achieve a level of success unavailable to him in his home Country, the opportunity to kill our citizens. To think that he was able to accomplish this despite the obvious roadblock of an attempted deportation by our judicial system just stands as testament to America's exceptional ism and to the wealth of opportunity that awaits all who dream of sneaking over our borders.
