Allen West to birthers: focus on Obama policies instead
Palm Beach Post ^ | February 23rd, 2011 | by George Bennett

West speaks to a crowd of about 400 at Tuesday night's town hall meeting in Jupiter.

JUPITER — Toward the end of a 90-minute audience Q&A session at Tuesday night’s town hall meeting, U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Plantation, was asked by former Indian Trail Improvement District board member Christopher Karch whether President Obama is “legally there or not.”

“Who is going to tell us who this man is? Is he legally there or not?” said Karch. “What are we going to do to ensure that, if he isn’t legally there, it doesn’t happen again?”

Said West: “I will tell you this: That is the dog chasing its tail. The most important thing is, it’s the policies. That’s what we have to be standing on.”

The crowd of about 400 applauded, but Karch wasn’t satisfied.

“But if he’s not, it’s treason,” Karch said.

Said West: “You will waste more time worrying yourself to death about that instead of making sure that you expand the majority in the House of Representatives, you win back the U.S. Senate so that you can stand against the policies that are emanating out of the White House…

“What is your objective? Your objective is getting back to a constitutional republic principles and values. If you spend your time worrying about someone’s citizenship, you will never get to that objective.”

West didn’t offer his own opinion on Obama’s citizenship during the public forum. So PostOnPolitics asked him after the meeting.

“He is a citizen. He’s the president. I mean, that’s all I know. I am concerned about his policies,” West said.

So who, in a position to follow the Constitution, is not doing so?

Pretty much our entire political and legal elite class.

That the Obama narrative is a complete fabrication is a given.

That he was born in Kenya or some such place is not.

When you know somebody’s lying, the worst thing you can do is jump to the wrong conclusion as to what they’re lying about. As far as I’m concerned, that’s what the Birther movement is doing. They’re jumping into a trap baited with the wrong conclusion.

Everything about this POTUS is a carefully crafted lie, right down to his name. But, IMO, the truth does not reside in Kenya.

Yeah...whatever. Get a life. You let this consume you. Again, this rumor was originally started by a left wing loon from Philly who had conspiracies about Bush and the Iraq war. This guy was a nut. Now we are following his rumors. Look no one disagrees with Obama and his policies. He did go to school in Indonesia which was probably not best influence. But we sound like NUTS going after this unproven conspiracy of his citizenship.

How, pray tell, does Congressman know that Obama is a citizen?

NO proof has ever been offered to show that he is a U.S. citizen, much less a "natural born" U.S. Citizen. Only a phoney "Certification of Live Birth" and Her Pelosi's signature to the effect that he was "qualified". NO, PROOF! NONE!

I agree with you.
The citizenship ruckus wastes resources that need to go toward defeating Baraq in 2012.

In relation to Obama? With what is legally known, what can be done according to the Constitution?

Rape and incest exceptions are going to always be allowed. As they should.

Civilized folks don't kill babies because of the sins of their fathers.

Once you start to exclude certain classes of persons from equal protection under the law, no one's rights are safe.

Fair enough. I agree. That is why this issue is so unimportant to me. It gets us nowhere. To be honest again there really is no hard evidence other then speculation etc...so regardless if true or not it is a detriment to our policy arguments with people who are not consumed by this.

He hasnt been proven to not being a natural born citizen.

The burden of proof that he's qualified remains on Obama, not on his employers.

Wrong. Charles Manson doesn’t have the right to forcibly choose a woman to bear his children. It’s just the way it is.

For whatever reason (media crucifixion being one, I’m sure) Repubs/conservatives no matter how “good” are, in totality, taking a punt on this issue.

I think the very reason for the question, and the continuing obfuscation of its answer, tells us all we need to know about “the truth” of the matter.

However, as the saying goes, it is what it is. The American people seemingly do not want the conflict/confusion/crisis a proven “non-American” president would bring. At this point, I think we must move on. While making sure it never happens again.

Oh, I forgot, tribal loyalty.

Have you ever listened to Allen West?

Tribal loyalty is about the most lame accusation I've heard. The man is a conservative. He's military. He's able to speak his mind, in a clear concise manner (and without a telepromptor). He is the exact opposite of Obama.

I can guarantee you that West's thoughts on this issue have NOTHING to do with "tribal loyalty".

Your facts ain’t. It’s not a rumor. It’s his own biographical claims when he was running for State Senate.

Lots of things. For starters, Congress could have demanded his credentials when they counted the electoral votes. Not even a single Republican demanded that the Constitution's provisions be followed in this respect.

Dozens of judges have had the opportunity to subpoena the documents. They've all refused.

A congressional committee could do the same. But the Republicans are way too cowardly to do that.

None of them care one whit about their oath, or what the Constitution requires of them.

Could you explain what you mean by this? I am a southern WASP and I would be proud to have West in my "tribe".

West is right. The birth certificate issue is a red herring. It’s Hawaii - full of dems - if it comes down to it a birth certificate will be “found.”
