Breaking: Firebomb thrown at elderly pro-life activist at 40 Days vigil

by John Jalsevac

Fri Mar 18 3:43 PM EST

March 18, 2011 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A homemade “bomb” akin to a Molotov cocktail was thrown at an elderly pro-life activist during a 40 Days for Life prayer vigil yesterday, March 17. The attack took place at around 6:15 p.m., near the All Family Health Care abortion center in Kalispell, Montana, according to the Thomas More Society (TMS)

According to Karen Trierweiler, coordinator of the 40 Days prayer vigils in Kalispell, the device was thrown at one of the vigil participants, an elderly retired woman, by an unidentified assailant as she walked on the public sidewalk near the abortion facility.

The victim did not see the thrower, nor did she see the device before it exploded on the sidewalk behind her, making a loud popping noise as it burst into flame. The victim was unhurt.

The victim then called Trierweiler to the scene, who called the police.

According to the TMS, which has filed a complaint with the FBI about the incident, a Kalispell police officer arrived only after a lengthy delay. The Society reports the police officer told the 40 Days prayer vigil participants that they should expect this kind of reaction if they’re out protesting.

“We are appalled by this terrible act of violence, while we’re immensely grateful that God’s grace spared this valiant pro-lifer any serious injury,” said Thomas Brejcha, president and chief counsel of the Thomas More Society.

Brejcha, however, took issue with the handling of the affair by the Kalispell police officer, calling his reaction “equally appalling, indeed outrageous.” Brejcha said they would be filing a disciplinary complaint against the officer and a desk sergeant who was also unhelpful.

“We expect much better from the FBI,” he said, “and we will pursue the matter to the very highest levels of the U.S. Department of Justice if this case is not investigated promptly and vigorously and - once the assailant is identified and apprehended - prosecuted to the hilt.”

Trierweiler also reported that an eyewitness has stepped forward, who was not part of the 40 Days campaign, but rather a passerby, who saw the incident occur and who may be able to help the FBI track down the bomb thrower.

The police should investigate the local union thugs. I am quite sure that they threw the Molotov.

On one hand, I think this might be Breaking News

On another hand, I think I might be stretching things.

More on a point of outrage that someone would try to firebomb an elderly woman for praying in front of an abortion facility...

On an outrage scale, this has to be a 10.

Of course, liberals would argue that a peaceful elderly woman praying is a perfectly legitimate target of a firebomb.

These same people would have thought it wrong to see any violence directed at liberals.

Of course, Wisconsin is a good example of how the liberal left is now resorting to violence...

Civil War. You can’t negotiate with these animals.

If “these kinds of occurrences” are to be expected at peaceful rallies, shouldn’t the participants arm themselves for their own protection since the police are unwilling to do it for them?

One problem for the NARAL/Planned Parenthood/Abortion folks is that 40 Days for Life is starting to be the most effective weapon against abortion. Clinics get closed. Babies get saved.

I guess their only response is: Firebomb anyone in praying in front an abortion clinic

People may or may not recall that various liberal media called for Michelle Malkin to be hate r-ped

This is why it is recommended to bring video cameras to pro-life demonstrations. It never hurts the pro-lifers, but it normally catches those are militant about abortion breaking the law...

People in Wisconsin need to bring video cameras to any future demonstrations on the confrontation between Governor Walker and the Republican legislature versus union thugs.

I hope this isn’t an inspiration for all pro abortionists and sympathizers to go out, and harm pro lifers. Every news program and radio show in the country should spend time admonishing pro abortionists not to be violent.

Remember when the abortion doctor was murdered? Pro life advocates were treated to a 24/7 barrage of moralizing, including people at FR who felt it necessary to lecture the rest of us on our moral obligation not to justify murder. It never seems to happen when the shoe is on the other foot, as it often is.

She is missing. This is very distressing to Michelle Malkin.

I don't know if the Obama administration, Harry Reid, or friends of Hillary have anything to do with this.

But they would be on a short list of suspects.

Random acts of violence do occur. Sometimes acts of violence are done to send a message.

They did have a lead today, but it did not work out...

Remember the cops do not have to protect you in any way.

Thou shalt not murder.

Self defense is a different story.

When it’s up to us to defend ourselves, we have to choose between being a victim or standing up with all you have.

Disagree. But partially agree.

Yes. You must be able to defend yourself.

An earlier point I made is bringing video cameras to such vigils.

If one knows they will be caught on tape, it is a deterrent.

However, with what you are saying, there is a case in Missouri where a woman had been assaulted. Her landlord gave her a shotgun to defend herself, and explained how to use it.

Sure enough, the same guy came back. The woman pleaded with him to leave, but to no avail.

She fired the shotgun and killed him. She bruised her shoulder -- because was a novice at firing shotguns.

In some cases it is necessary to use deadly force.

In the age of cell phones with video cameras, people will be deterred. Also, inexpensive but high quality video cameras will record evidence so that the bad guys can be prosecuted...

Let's us just say I partially agree with you...
