Democrats catching impeachment fever ? [If Obama's Lost Dennis Kucinich...]

If nothing else, Dennis Kucinich is consistent. He wanted to push articles of impeachment against George W. Bush and Dick Cheney over the Iraq war, which his own party’s leadership squelched in the summer of 2008 — when Bush’s term had all but expired anyway. Kucinich and John Conyers instead had to settle for “impugnment hearings,” which one witness called “slightly demented.”

Now we have another military action from another president, this one without the cover of a Congressional authorization to use military force, and Kucinich wants to crank up the impeachment process, pun most certainly intended:

A hard-core group of liberal House Democrats is questioning the constitutionality of U.S. missile strikes against Libya, with one lawmaker raising the prospect of impeachment during a Democratic Caucus conference call on Saturday.

Reps. Jerrold Nadler (N.Y.), Donna Edwards (Md.), Mike Capuano (Mass.), Dennis Kucinich (Ohio), Maxine Waters (Calif.), Rob Andrews (N.J.), Sheila Jackson Lee (Texas), Barbara Lee (Calif.) and Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D.C.) “all strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president’s actions” during that call, said two Democratic lawmakers who took part.

...it means that at least some on the far left are willing to show some consistency. Yesterday the Democratic House Caucus held a conference call on Libya, and a "hard-core group of liberal House Democrats" "strongly raised objections to the constitutionality of the president's actions." Dennis Kucinich "asked why the U.S. missile strikes aren't impeachable offenses."

From a political standpoint, it is probably a plus for Obama any time he has opponents on his left. But this is one more reminder of how far we have come from the days when Obama got has start as a presidential contender as the candidate of the antiwar movement.

Gimme a break! If Obama loses Dennis the Menace, he loses deadweight, he loses that which he never had and if he ever “had” him he was an albatross. Campaigning without the support of Kucinich is like hunting without an accordian.

Hmmm... Looks like the fringe left is a bit unsettled right now and it also looks coordinated because Ralph Nader is singing a similar refrain at the moment: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2691891/posts

I believe that the War Powers Act allows the president to act without congressional consent for 60 days (with perhaps a 30 day extension). After that time limit, theoretically, congress can end the military action.

As far as I know, the War Powers Act has never really been used, and I think many people think it is not Constitutional. But perhaps enough Leftwing extremists in Congress will oppose our involvement in Libya to actually put this all to the test.

Like everything Liberal, this astroturf outrage is contrived.

Liberals have no standards to measure anything by.

If someone actually drafted articles of impeachment Kucinich and all the other Liberals would race away like scalded apes.

The left wing has called for it repeal for years, maybe this time they may actually attempt it. It should be repealed.

Baloney. They’re just blowin’ smoke. All this amounts to is a shot across the bow in reminder to Obama that they’re really the ones in charge and to APPEAR to be consistent. Then they’ll go back to their tawdry lives, soaking the taxpayers for whatever goodies they can get, smokin’ their Cubans and pimpin’ their constituents.
