"Hollywood remake of Red Dawn spends $1m to change villains from Chinese to North Koreans... so as not to offend Beijing"
Hollywood film-makers have changed the villains in a re-make of the film Red Dawn to avoid offending China and spoiling its chances of success at the box office.
The original action film starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen featured Russian troops invading America.
In the remake Chinese troops lead the invasion - but bosses at MGM studio are to spend more than $1 million on digital special effects to make it appear the invaders are from North Korea.

China is plausible, but a pipsqueak economy like North Korea taking over here is retarded. And by bending to the sensibilities of China,,they prove the original concept is the true menace.
Sick....... Just leave it alone and don't cheapen it as with the “Poseidon Adventure” remake....... The only decent remake I've seem of late is “True Grit.”
I think it's the reader: "The original action film starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen featured Russian troops invading America. "
I hope the movie is a comedy. That’s the only way a film about North Korea invading the US would succeed.
Remake of movie should have targeted a Muslim invasion,
which in reality is going to happen.
Better yet, should have left well enough alone with the original, which this piece of crap will not reprise.
Hot Young Jennifer Grey
WOLVERINES!!!
Here’s some old news...
Actually, the filming was completed for this remake movie. The Red Chinese were the villains and it was set to be released last year (December I think). Chinese officials started making some noise. Boom! North Koreans are now the villains.
Don’t want them to cash in their T-bills at the moment; it could embarrass that immortal Hollywood hero, Obama al-Hussein.
Maybe make it North Koreans and Libyans? lol
I don’t think the Chinese really care. If anything, they’ll just ban the movie from going into the country. Big deal. They’ve already banned Google and Facebook. So what?
It doesn’t even make sense anymore. The total population of NK and their military is outdated.
Hollywood has gone off the deep end. In the new Liam Neeson flick, Unknown, the bad guys are, of course, American businessmen and one of the good guys turns out to be (get ready for this) a Saudi prince who is using his oil wealth to benefit mankind.
Stupid author. I also remember Red Dawn Americans saying “who’s on our side?”, followed by “a hundred million Chinese”, then “aren’t there a billion Chinese?”, and finally “there were...”. The Chines were our friends in the battle against the Russians and Cubans.
Exactly.
Fools.
Honestly, when I heard they were remaking this one, I really expected the story to be one of a beneficent communist invasion come here to rescue American from President Palin.
You were being sarcastic, right ?
Just in case you weren't, its because they [the ChiComms] will lose at the end of the movie.
The studio would have been better off having the ChiComms win, then at least they would be guaranteed an Oscar(TM) for best picture, a Nobel Peace Prize for the director, and Presidential Medal of Freedom for the producers.
Col. Andy Tanner: Six hundred million screaming Chinamen.
Darryl Bates: Last I heard, there were a billion screaming Chinamen.
Col. Andy Tanner: There *were*.
