Gaza groups now have more dangerous missiles that can reach Tel Aviv, and are working on improved communications systems modeled on independent Hezbollah network established in Lebanon.
Facing a possible new conflict against Hamas, concern is growing within the IDF regarding increased efforts by Palestinian terrorist groups to dig tunnels under the border that could be used to infiltrate into Israel and perpetrate attacks.
According to IDF sources, the number of tunnels has grown in recent years. Hamas is under orders to dig terror tunnels along the border.
Hamas has split into five different regional brigades north, Gaza City, central Gaza, Khan Younis and Rafah.
The exact number of tunnels is unknown to the IDF.
Tunnels have been used in the past by Hamas and other terrorist groups to infiltrate into Israel. The terrorists who abducted Gilad Schalit from his military post near Kerem Shalom, in June 2006, crossed into Israel through an underground tunnel.

Is this really a real problem?
I would think that with ground penetrating radar, noise and vibration monitoring, that detecting new tunnels should not be that difficult. Perhaps there is just too much territory to cover, but the technology should be there.
If a tunnel is found, it can always have the outside packed with explosives and then destroyed whenever anyone uses it (along with whoever is inside the tunnel). I wonder if the terrorists would complain about their members being killed while in a tunnel trying to sneak into Israel, (probably would complain about anything.)

Hey, you think the Israelis know about this? Maybe someone should tell them.

I wonder if the terrorists would complain about their members being killed while in a tunnel trying to sneak into Israel, (probably would complain about anything.) They'll just make children do the digging, then dig them back out and lay the bodies around.

It's a concrete form. You pour the concrete into the form.
Concrete is gravel, sand and cement.

Totally emboldened and yes, with Mubarak's departure; and as bad, Obama's Presidency. All too pathetic and so very threatening to Israel's core existance. Hope they fight back - harder and do not let the tunnels 'happen'.

Concrete is gravel, sand and cement.Dang it - last night, it looked like entrance walls to a tunnel with lots of supporting structure between them. :-)
I guess I know why it looked inviting to cement and gravel - because it's made for that.
