The Gadhafi precedent: Could attack on Libya set the stage for action against Israel?
Jewish Workd Review ^ | 3/22/2011 | Frank J. Gaffney, Jr.

There are many reasons to be worried about the bridge-leap the Obama administration has just undertaken in its war with Col. Moammar Gadhafi. How it will all end is just one of them.

Particularly concerning is the prospect that what we might call the Gadhafi precedent will be used in the not-too-distant future to justify and threaten the use of U.S. military forces against an American ally: Israel.

Here's how such a seemingly impossible scenario might eventuate:

It begins with the Palestinian Authority seeking a United Nations Security Council resolution that would recognize its unilateral declaration of statehood.

Thats insane. Congress would never stand for it and neither would the American public.

There were a few of us who objected when SErbia was bombed. The problem was that the public at large did not realize what was happening.

The Serbs did little to defend their image. Now, I see that Hollywood is filled with anti-Semitic/anti-Israeli movies which will hopefully bomb at the office. Image is important. Devout Christians know the truth.

The Libyan Rule says we can attack anyone, anywhere, if the Europeans want us to. So...how much do Europeans love Israel? Hmmm?

No wonder our foreign policy is incoherent. It is being run by women (including Obama).

Come Lord, America will be destroyed if it turns its back on Israel in these days...Obammas goal..Hatred of Christian and Jews, ultimately God himself..Ohbamma has the antichrist demeanor, liar, hatred against God’s people, willing to destroy all in this hatred...in some masquerade to prove himself as worthy...

I don’t understand this pre-occupation with Israel. I’m a Christian too and I support Israel’s right to exist. But - I get the feeling that some people seem to almost deify the country and use it as a “rubber stamp” to elicit approval for whatever it is they’re supporting.

For instance, if military action can some way benefit Israel then we should send our children off to war. I don’t understand that.

And I’ve heard the Scripture quoted about blessing Abraham. But - since 1948, we’ve supported Israel, giving them military hardware, going to war in part to support them and bankrolling them, where is the US now? The US is virtually bankrupt, our cities are littered with dangerous no-go zones, the gov is out of control, divorce rate is high, Christians have been pushed to the back of the buss, US demographics show the US will turn into a 3rd world non-Constitutional entity in 25 years, etc.

Why is it that just about every major US politician “has to” go to Israel first before they run for President or even the Senate I suppose? Why not visit Poland or Austria?

As far as I can remember, it appeared Jesus was especially impressed with the faith of the Roman (Italian). I think we have to look at Jesus as transnational, I don’t think you can say Jesus = Israel or any country. Am I wrong or missing something here?

I understand your point of view, The Jewish society at the time did not treat Christ to well, but when God makes promises, he keeps them..and so that is the basis of my post..I believe that when countries choose not to help Israel, they choose a losing cursed side..just my point of view , respect yours..

Boy, flying an F-15E, Mirage, or Rafale on a strike against Israel would be ... exciting. I don’t think the cruise missiles or stealth aircraft would catch the IAF on the ground.

It is not in our best interest to take on Israel, and Obama better to be sure to know what he is doing, here, there would be no escape, and I don’t think our military will go along with Obama.....they would tell him to shove it up the dark side of that moon

Munich, Mirall (by the detestable Julian Schnabel) and a Brit movie about how terrible the Stern Gang was and makes no mention of the fact that the Mufti (Arafat’s uncle) was allied with the Nazis. Yes, Israel is the new Hollyweird villain. It is ok to demonize the Serbs and also Israelis. Shame on the movie industry.

The day the United States betrays Israel will be the day God loses all interest in doing anything for it.

Not to sound peevish, but is that really true? As mentioned in my previous post, look at the state of the US today. The nation’s finances are near insolvency, demographic takeover is nearly complete and the US will be morphed into 3rd world status that doesn’t respect the US Constitution, divorce is high, 48 million are on food stamps, etc. How do you arrive at this conclusion?

For instance, if military action can some way benefit Israel then we should send our children off to war. I don’t understand that.
I'm a Jew and a revisionist-Zionist and find that argument silly. We should go to war based on our interests, not that of Israel. To often politicians unwilling to make a case of US interest or oil interest will make it about Israel. Those who do so are not friends of Israel.

The US imposed an arms embargo on Israel in 1948, while the Arabs had US arms. The US did not really sell weapons to Israel until after 1967. I can't think of an instance where the US has gone to war for Israel and not US interest, and it has always cost Israel.
While I agree with much of the rest here, God gives us free will to elect evil, mendacious and stupid leaders and to let evil greedy swine define our culture. You want to see protection? The Cascadia subduction zone has not given us a major earthquake in 250 years. The New Madrid fault line in the Mississippi gave us an earthquake in 1806, not 1900 or 2000. Yellowstone has not erupted.

Why is it that just about every major US politician “has to” go to Israel first before they run for President or even the Senate I suppose? Why not visit Poland or Austria?
Because a lot of American Protestants care about Israel. I'd like to see them go to Poland.

I think that the American public would rise up if Obama and his pals, Samantha Powers, Susan Rice and Hitlery, tried to do such a thing to Israel. Enough is enough.

They wouldn't have to do that much ..... just deny Israel resupply and help that the Izzies have received in the past. The Arabs would roll over them after they ran out of ammo.

I just hope they laid a lot in, back in the good days.

Only maniacs attack nations with strategic thermonuclear capabilities.

Israel is nuclear-armed. But thermonuclear? I've never heard. That is a quantum leap in destructiveness, up into the megaton range. (The kiloton range is bad enough, ask the Japanese .... and the bombs they saw were at the low end of what is called tactical yield these days.)

That's what the bad guys in the U.N. have in mind for us.

Forget Israel, the one they'd like to intervene in and bust up is the United States. A "final solution" for all those clear-eyed, stiff-backed Americans of European extraction, or whatever the academics are calling us now, as they work the vocabulary around to "settlers" -- as in, "one settler, one bullet".
