Breast milk ice cream hits London streets
Edmonton Journal ^ | 22 Mar 2011 | Mia Stainsby

It doesn't get more locavore than this. Ice cream made from human breast milk. Or what about mom's milk cheese?

It's the most natural of foods and yet, human breast milk is lumped in with bizarre and controversial foods, unless, of course, it's a suckling baby drinking it.

The latest human breast milk product is Baby Gaga ice cream, sold in London, England, in a shop called The Icecreamists. The restaurant buys milk from mamas to make into ice cream flavoured with vanilla and lemon zest that it serves in a martini glass for about $22.50.

"The Baby Gaga tastes creamy and rich. No one's done anything interesting with ice cream in the last 100 years," owner Matt O'Connor has said.

Is it the thin edge of a trend? It isn't the first human milk product to be sold to the public. Klee Brasserie, a fine dining restaurant in New York City, made limited amounts of breast milk cheese dishes while the owner's wife was lactating last year. The chef/owner served the cheese dredged in porcini powder; with figs and Hungarian pepper; and with maple caramelized pumpkin seeds and grapes.

The New York City health department didn't have specific rules on human breast milk products but they did ask the owner to stop selling or giving away the dishes. Co-owner Daniel Angerer said he got extreme reactions, both positive and negative.

Another New Yorker, Miriam Simun, made and served up breast milk cheeses as a university project. And here in Canada, a Toronto performance artist staged a piece called Lactation Station Breast Milk Bar with samples. The idea has backing from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). They've even urged Ben & Jerry's Homemade Ice Cream company to start replacing cow's milk with human breast milk.

It is reducing women to an animal....a cow. It makes her body’s secretions into a commodity to be sold and profited from. It is why the church condemns the selling of human eggs, and sperm, etc.

It conditions little kids into equating a woman with a cow—just an animal with no intentional design by God. It removes breast milk from reproduction...much the same way the pill removed the sex act from reproduction. It is to make the most intimate details of human reproduction into something meaningless.

Cultural Marxism is all about destroying the dignity and worth of women and men—to destroy marriage....to create hate and division....to make it easier to redesign the godless chaotic society that it will become...and kill off the useless eaters. If they are just “trousered animals” as CS Lewis says, then they can be easily herded and killed and no one will even care...especially if all biological connections are severed.

It should bother you, because it is godless Marxist ideology.

Why not pasturize? Because humans in first world countries rarely have brucellosis or typhoid. ON the other hand it might be wise for donors to be tested for tuberculosis and have a general checkup.

> I’m just not comfortable with this product. Maybe it’s because cows are cleaner?

Ummm, you haven't been around many cows in dairy barns lately, have you?

That's not to slight the efforts of dairy farmers to keep their cows clean. And yes they do try to keep the diseases down to a dull roar. And the organic farmers try to avoid the artificial hormones and other drugs...

It's not just humans who take drugs, of course. The cows are force-fed them.

So, spend some time at the south end of a north-bound cow (the udder is pretty much right under the back end), and please reconsider.

Then again, I'm not sure that -some- human milk providers are any cleaner, so I do grant that in some instances your point is well taken.

:)

Too bad, you can lead a horse to water...

After the lactating, imagine sucking vanilla flavored milk through a straw and, IT'S GOOD FOR YOU! Not to mention giving you a STIFF feeling. I'm not a doctor but I did watch an episode of "House" once.

At $22.50 a glass, you’ve got to be a “boob” to buy it.

Milk a goat, damn it.

“Don’t be critical of things you have never tried and are perfectly aligned with nature.”

Well, first of all, most of us have “tried” breast milk before, though not in ice cream form of course. Secondly, I don’t see too many adults hanging off the teat in nature. Maybe I’m not watching the right shows on Animal Planet, just saying...
