Sarah and Sarah
NY Sun ^ | March 27, 2011 | Editorial of The New York Sun

One of the things that Sarah Palin did on her stopover at Israel was announce that she was eager to return for a longer visit, and we found ourselves wondering whether she will eventually make a visit to the Machpelah. For the first body laid to rest there in the cave purchased by Abraham was that of Mrs. Palin’s namesake, Sarah, Abraham’s wife and the mother of Isaac. We have sometimes found ourselves wondering whether the affection Mrs. Palin exhibits in respect of Israel is related to the fact that the former governor — the Alert Alaskan is our favorite alliteration for her — is named after the first, the most beautiful, and the most prickly of the Jewish matriarchs.

We were put in mind of this not only by Mrs. Palin’s visit to Israel but also by the contretemps that followed the suggestion by a leading journalist in Washington, David Frum, that Mrs. Palin was alienating Jewish voters by failing to arrange her visit through a the Republican Jewish Coalition, of whose board Mr. Frum is a member. The RJC has been paving the way for one of the most important migrations of American Jews, from the Democratic Party to the party of Lincoln and Reagan. It’s sometimes lonely but always heroic work, and no doubt there were those in the RJC who wished they could have been the organizing party of Mrs. Palin’s first visit to the Jewish State.

The contretemps, however, was a matter of politics rather than principle, and how could it be otherwise? For on the substance Mrs. Palin has been a passionate supporter of Israel. This seems to be well-recognized by the executive director of the Republican Jewish Coalition Matthew Brooks, who made a point late last week of defending Mrs. Palin’s most recent

Good article. As for not seeing Israel with the help of David Frum, who can blame her?

I think Sarah and Todd march to their own drummers. They do everything their own way. I think they have good instincts. Hope it brings them to the White House.

Astute observations from the New York Sun on Sarah Palin and her positions on Israel.

She is clearly not part of the 'go-along-get-along' school of Republican politics and that is so refreshing. Those who constantly yammer that she hasn't been specific enough on this or that issue (a year before the primary season) haven't paid attention - or choose not to. Palin has staked out positions on Israel, for one, and doesn't seem to care much whether the GOP elites approve or not, nor should she. This is another reason Sarah Palin remains a favorite, not of the leftmedia or the GOP elites, but of hardworking, fed-up-with-Washington conservatives and many Americans who want something different and not the same old, same old 'electable' candidates spouting compromise and conciliation with the left - and losing to the Democrat. Not this time.

At this point a read (or reread) of William Buckley's “God and Man at Yale” would be quite instructive for those who call themselves Conservative.

It is pretty simple to explain why Sarah loves Israel.

She is a sincere honest Bible believing Christian. I am sure she takes seriously the warning in the scripture about those who oppose Israel and those who support her. You need not be a Jew to look forward to the ultimate victories over the forces of evil. Even considering the damage and horrors foretold along the way.

She is NOT a phoney, posturing, elitist Pubbie.

If she gets the nomination, I will have NO PROBLEM voting for her. She might decide she can do more good in another position, we shall see.

The old ‘tried and true GOP way’ brought us Dole and McCain. Time for the Plain way. She and only she will decide when and how she plays. The fossilized GOP establishment can go suck eggs and twiddle their arthritic thumbs.

Maybe you could summarize for us. The thought of buying a book by Buckley makes my head spin.

BTW, there is no God at Yale - unless you are talking about money.

What a terrific editorial about Sarah in the NY Sun. The Sun is a great conservative leaning paper.
Sarah and Todd’s trip to Israel was personal & from the heart. Just another very Important expression of who the Palins really are.

FWIW David Frum is a backstabbing RINO. maybe cause he he used to be Canadian. He is no Mark Steyn!

Actually he reads a lot easier than you would think. Now listening to him years ago was a challenge, but I am a visual processor more so than auditory.

Sarah is one of our only leaders who honor the truth and let the light shine. God bless Sarah, she is real and we need a dose of truth after the liar Obama finishes his destruction of America.
