Citadel Lands WLNE, Plans Upgrade (AND G Beck dropped in CT)

CONNECTICUT's WDRC talk network (WDRC 1360 Hartford, WMMW 1470 Meriden, WWCO 1240 Waterbury, WSNG 610 Torrington) is the latest prominent outlet to drop Glenn Beck's syndicated talk show. Starting April 4, the 9-noon timeslot now filled by Beck (who draws a passionate listener base but whose show is reportedly difficult to sell to top-tier advertisers wary of the controversies he engenders) will instead be filled by Mary Jones. She'd lost her weekday WDRC gig a while back, and had been doing weekends - and she'll share the 9-10 AM hour with WDRC morning man Brad Jones (as "Leatherneck and Lace"), followed by two solo hours.

Soros has threatened his advertisers and they fear the backlash of a boycott. Glenn is doing God’s work, but I fear the crooked Kapo Nazi collaborator can use his billions to hurt Mr. Beck.

Well I discounted Beck and a fraud when Beck and O Reilly made fun of birthers along with Coulter, ingraham, Boortz, Medved, hewitt and a few others. Fake conservatives.

Wow, I bet that will entice the Top-Tier advertisers.

Any time I tried his radio show, Beck seemed nuts. Hewitt was Romney's cheerleader in '08 and was heavily criticized for it.

O'Reilly was never a conservative but more than that he's a creep and a liar for profit. For me, Ann seemed to have gone off the deep end years ago and not really recovered; perhaps she spent too much time around Bill Maher.

Medved used to be in my talk radio rotation but he got too condescending. I wasn't too impressed with the "cultural crusader's" tacit approval of abortion either. He hid behind a distinction of potential persons vs persons in Jewish law.

I like the John Batchelor show. And I like Mark Simone. And I've grown to like Joe Crummey. I've listened to Rush for years, but listen less and less. I find him more and more tedious and predictable. Levin and Hannity are pretty much unlistenable to me. Oh yea, if I'm near a radio on sundays, I still love me some Bob Grant--the real great one.

I don't listen to Beck--I can't get WOR from my car or home. If I could get WOR, I'd probably listen to some Michael Savage, if I was in the mood for some manic fun.

The good news, {not for beck} is there are so many conservative talk shows, that if one gets scratched there are two more to replace him.

When a whole lib network {Air America} goes south no one misses them.

The only really sustaining liberal talk radio stations are supported by our tax dollars.

Across the Country there are a handful of lib talkers, but their audience is sparse and they never rank in the top 5 in their markets.

Thanks for the heads up on this one, raccoonradio!

Ping to Connecticut FReepers. The "Talk of Connecticut" - the WDRC Radio Network - sucks big time, IMO. There are so few decent shows left on this network of stations (with the exception of the wonderful Dan Lovallo)... they may as well go out of business.

For any FReepers who will miss Glenn Beck, live 9AM - 12 noon, tune into WHYN 560 AM from Springfield, MA.

Thanks, DTogo. I forgot about New Haven's WELI 960 AM, and didn't know about 800 AM from Danbury.

Re-pinging the CT ping list for DTogo's info above...

George Soros has made it a mission to 'stop' Glenn Beck. That is, keep him off both radio and TV. That tells me that Beck must be doing something right if he can arouse the ire of the billionaire, anti-American, Nazi collaborator, Soros. However, any talk show host is going be judged subjectively and Glenn Beck is no exception. He has a long resume in commercial radio and has been very successful and but he is not for everyone. WDRC, WMMW, WWCO & WSNG are all relatively small, struggling AM stations that cannot afford to keep any syndicated show on their schedule that doesn't produce maximum advertising revenue for the station. Ratings (which determine advertising rates) always play a part in these decisions, not necessarily political preferences. However, I'm dubious that Beck's replacement (Mary Jones) will fare much better in the rating wars. We'll see.

I'm a longtime Rush Limbaugh listener (going back to when Rush was carried on WPOP-AM) but I miss being able to hear Laura Ingraham and I used to enjoy Dr. Laura Schlessinger's feisty advice show. She hasn't been heard on Connecticut radio for years but recently moved to satellite (Sirius XM). Of course, just before Rush (from noon to 3 P.M.) we have Jim Vicevich on 50,000 watt WTIC-AM from 9 to noon, Monday through Friday so Connecticut is not without access to conservative talk shows. New York City radio stations are also a fall-back option for most Connecticut radio listeners seeking conservative talk shows, especially if you reside in southern Connecticut. Even without the WDRC Talk Network carrying Glenn Beck, we're still essentially 'covered'.
