Wonder how many times Obama asked the teacher: "Could you be clearer on that point"?

And the teacher said: "Let me be very clear.......

Very old habit he's got there...

No wonder 0b0z0 is hiding his "education" records!

0b0z0 is the laziest, most ignorant, AA, bisexual foreign student to become the highest-ranking illegal alien POTUS.

These are all firsts worthy of the genesis book of records.

What a disaster for the US and the world!

"Too much testing makes education boring."

Yeah, that's not true. Going to class every day to listen to someone talk about how they're a liberal ex-hippie gay Jewish rabbi who used to be straight is boring.

Yes, testing at least has some dramatic tension.

Determine the schools methods of teaching and publish the results.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I agree that careful study should be made of those adults and children who are academically successful and then try to more broadly apply those methods.

One of the **most** important aspects to study is how much learning is acquired **in the home**! How much of the academic success is due to **afterschooling**? What do these afterschooling habits look like?

We need to know **exactly** how much is learned in the home vs. how much is learned in the classroom. It is entirely possible that NOTHING is learned in the classroom and that all academic success is due to afterschooling.

In speaking with parents with academically successful children I find little difference between successful homeschoolers and those successful children who are institutionalized. Both groups ( home and institutionalized) have similar values concerning education. Both have similar home routines. Both sets of academically successful children are spending the **SAME** amount of **TIME** at the kitchen table or at the child's desk.

Maybe schools are NOT teaching much. Maybe academic success is entirely dependent on the afterschooling done by the child and his parents.

Conclusion:

If success is due to afterschooling, then we need to duplicate the methods that are used by successful afterschooling and homeschooing parents and adapt them to the institutional setting. KIPP charter schools seem to be doing exactly that.

One more thing:

I find the intellectual and professional curiosity of government teachers to be APPALLING!

My homeschooled children were in college by the ages of 13, 12, and 13. All finished all general college courses and Calculus III by the age of 15. Two completed B.S. degrees in mathematics by the age of 18. The oldest was equally successful in his interests and will soon earn a masters in accounting at a normal age.

My children were in the local newspaper several times. The university published a full-page article about my two younger children since they were the youngest ever admitted in the history of the university.

NO teacher or professor of education has ever contacted our family to ask how we did this. Other professors have, and professionals in other fields have, and have soon great interest in our methods. Teachers? NEVER!

In my profession, when there is a successful breakthrough, others are all over like white on rice. That doesn't seem be the case in teaching. j

AFTER SCHOOLING!

I was not familiar with that term until now. I would bet ‘real money’ that “After-schooling” is the key to well educated and prepared kids

The concept explains why some ethnic groups do well in school. It always seemed to be based upon assumptions that it was cultural. It seems it is - but it is more simple than that

Mom and Dad make the kids sit down and do their homework every night or afternoon..

The decline in popularity of the traditional family suggests that those kids will not perform as well, because in too many cases the single parent does not have the time or energy at the end of a long day to sit with the child and go over his work.

If the child does not master one night’s homework, the lessons the next day are slightly more difficult. As it gets increasingly difficult the kid becomes discouraged and eventually gives up. He’ll watch TV, play video games and lie to Mom or Dad and say he did homework, or none was assigned

The parent is “shocked, shocked I tell you” when a poor report card makes it home

Before I need asbestos undershorts, I know I am generalizing. Many single parents figure out how to make sure the kids do their “after-school” work. It is just harder to make sure it gets done

My wife stayed home or worked part time to be home when the kids got out of (parochial)school. They are bright and seem to be working to fulfill their potential (Thank God).

If it had been just one of us, it would have been much more difficult to after school them

Great posts. Thanks
