Concord, N.H. (AP) -- In his latest trip to New Hampshire, Republican Rick Santorum says the Social Security system would be in much better shape if there were fewer abortions.

The former Pennsylvania senator and potential presidential candidate was asked about Social Security during an interview on WESZ-AM radio in Laconia on Tuesday morning.

He says the system has design flaws, but the reason it is in big trouble is that there aren't enough workers to support retirees. He blamed that on what he called the nation's abortion culture. He says that culture, coupled with policies that do not support families, deny America what it needs _ more people.

Do the math..

Withhold 20, 40 no 50 million potential workers from the economy and then ask how can a ponzi scheme like Social Security ever work?

We have a gubamint that is carrying out a ‘planned obsolescense’ operation that will eventually undercut it’s ability to maintain itself as anything more than a shell of its original intent.

I'm certainly not going to defend the murder of unborn children, but the same "we need more people" argument is used to justify illegal immigration.

Our population continues to increase already, if simply having more people solved the problem of funding Social Security, we'd have solved it long ago.

The fact remains that as a ponzi scheme, there will never be a way to perpetually fund Social Security. Those of us in Generation X and beyond will never see a penny of benefits, simply because of the math.

Gee, Rick, something *I* said, repeatedly, over a decade and a half ago...

And then import, or turn a blind eye, to the flood across the Borders.
Numbers almost come out equal.

That’s been an argument of mine for years. Aside of the moral issue, the obvious economic issue.

Agreed. Either Santorum is being a slimy politician or he just doesn't know.

Why is India a rising economic power?

They’re not sitting on a lake of oil, and they aren’t stealing it from their neighbors.

It’s because they have over a BILLION PEOPLE, and they drive them to be productive (as opposed to sitting around collecting welfare checks)

People = Economic Growth. Instead we decided to follow the “population bomb” garbage back in the 70’s.

I don't think anybodies mind will be changed on abortion just because you shouldn't kill those you want to enslave.
The same argument has not caused me to change my mind on illegal immigration.

I should have said "to justify shamnesty for illegal immigration."

The fact remains that there is no fix for Social Security. Those of us in Generation X and beyond should not be made to pay into a fund that will give us no future benefit.

Indian annual per capita income is $1000.00. That is pretty good driving.

Have you seen their Tatas?

I would say that abortion caused the illegal immigration situation. We're missing millions of US educated workers.

I do not believe they are related. Ted Kennedy pushed and got enacted the first acts of shamnesty in the 1960s, far before the murder of unborn children was legalized nationwide in 1973.

Every time we've had a shamnesty granted, it just attracts more illegals.

The fact remains that there is no fix for Social Security.... I believe you and sympathize with you. I’ll be asking for my portion of the $196,000 they stole from me, this year.
