President Obama to call for one-third cut to oil imports

President Obama on Wednesday will call for a one-third cut in oil imports by 2020, part of a plan he says will reduce U.S. dependence on foreign petroleum.

With rising gasoline prices at home and political turmoil throughout the Middle East, Obama will seek in a speech at Georgetown University to rally Americans — and bickering lawmakers — behind a program that draws about half of that import cut from energy savings and about half from greater energy production, according to Obama aides who briefed reporters Tuesday.

Demolished tanks line the highway connecting Tripoli and Benghazi after air raids

Stratfor reports:

Prior to President Obama's address justifying a U.S.-European coalition in Libya Monday evening, leaders from around the world have sounded off in both support and condemnation of the intervention. In Russia, for example, Prime Minister Putin criticized it heavily as a medieval campaign.

Why, then, did Russia abstain from the U.N. Security Council resolution that authorized the no-fly zone, rather than use its veto? Sometimes, the words of political leaders require complete interpretation beyond face value.

In Russia's case, abstention was a calculated move to facilitate intervention. The subsequent instability could eliminate Libya as an oil & gas alternative, thus giving Moscow greater market share - and greater control - in Europe.

And everyone don’t forget — pump up the tires on your car, that’s a sure cure to our foreign oil problem.

Careful, he might grant that wish. A little hyperinflation could do that. Of course the poverty line would be at the billionaire level.

Sure that’s “do-able”. /sarc

OTOH, if Obama continues to destroy employment, the productive economoy, & the purchasing power of the US dollar, I could see the demand for gasoline falling rather precipitously.

Your #16 is right on.

Cloward and Piven plan, on the economy, and energy is the key.

One reason I believe we need Sarah Palin as President #45.

The president’s speech comes the day after the Republican-controlled House ramped up legislative attacks on the Obama Administration’s energy agenda. Republican Rep. Doc Hastings of Washington, chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, announced three new proposals Tuesday as part of the new American Energy Initiative, to get rid of barriers to domestic oil production.

The Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing now Act, and the Reversing President Obama’s Offshore Moratorium Act would establish a timeline for the administration to consider drilling permits, require the administration to conduct lease sales in the Gulf, and lift the de-facto moratorium by forcing the administration to act on the 2012-2012 lease plans, respectively.

“I plan to call for every American to be multi-millionaires by 2017!”

Actually, your plan has much more probability of coming to fruition. Since 2008 the Fed has tripled the money supply and they continue adding to it at an incredible rate. The reason we haven’t experienced run-away inflation or Weimar hyper inflation is because everybody is scared to spend even a nickel they don’t have to. But having reduced the buying power of the pre-2008 saved dollar to thirty-three cents has already taxed us of 66% of our saved wealth. In ten years the minimum wage may be in the twenty dollar range. Bank clerks will be making $100,000. California teachers will make $500,000. Clearly, everybody with a ‘decent’ job will be a millionaire. And, when everybody is a millionaire, it’s meaningless.

never understood the appeal of mass transit as a method of “reducing” energy usage.
a bus get less than 4mpg, and runs all day even when it’s mostly, or completely empty of passengers.
