Libyan foreign minister Moussa Koussa defects

Moussa Koussa, the Libyan foreign minister, last night defected from Col Muammar Gaddafi's government after flying to Britain, telling officials he was "no longer willing" to serve the regime.

Mr Koussa flew from Tunisia, where he had been on a diplomatic mission, and landed at Farnborough airport before being shuttled to London for immediate talks with high-ranking Foreign Office officials.

Mr Koussa was one of the leading figures in Col Gaddafi's government and one of the architects of Libya's recent rehabilitation in the eyes of the international community.

It wasn’t going to take long for London to find themselves a puppet.

This is a very interesting development. I have here a link to two very informative articles written since the revolt started regarding the tribal makeup of Libya, how Qadaffi has played it, and what the future might bring. An important element in the east is the Sannusi tribal element which the prior king belonged to. Apparently their success was partialy due to a relatively tolerant application of Islam with various tribes and peoples. I’m not sure how long they would be willing to put up with Al Qaida extremism. I think I will go research Moussa Koussa and the Sanussi next.

Yeah, he could be a new-regime-leader material the West are comfortable with.

Reminds me of Rudolf Hess flight to England and subsequent life prison. Like Hess, Koussa knows a lot. I am not sure at all that he “defected” out of his own will. OTOH, players of such caliber always have several options.

how Qadaffi has played it

As is well known by all, Qadaffi is ruthless, and would never have come to power, in that part of the world, without knowing the lay of the battlefield. The same could be said about knowing the lay of the battlefield pretty much worldwide by Qadaffi. This is a dangerous situation and one I pray doesn't get out of hand. As all are aware, this situation could get out of hand quickly.

Heard something, and read something, off topic, concerning May 15th, if recalling correctly. Pressure to be placed on Israel by the non-nation of Palestine. Did not know if you had seen or heard. One eye looking forward and one eye looking back behind, is causing some blurred vision, though I believe our Military is ready for what may occur. I know, for certain, God is ready, thus I rest well, and pray you rest well also.

Thank You again, gleeaikin.

Try this post. And do pay attention to the post#28 from notes prepared by the West Point Study, which I must remind myself to transfer from one of my older machines to the current one I am using.
It was a interesting read of the make up of the tribes, but I would not let for a minute, allow it's contents to persuade me of the how should I say, the gentle characteristics of those peoples, should drive my heart to want to sacrifice our sons in the air and boots on the ground to free them from one immediate oppression to simply other sets of oppressions in the future. They where out in the streets for the most part waving and cheering when the twin towers went down.
