Showdown: 41 Senate Democrats vow to filibuster budget if it defunds Planned Parenthood

Boehner could probably get away with dropping the PP rider from the House budget bill if Reid was prepared to agree to a number close to $61 billion in cuts. But to meet roughly only halfway, at or around $33 billion, and still drop some of the red meat like defunding PP that the base craved? He’s burning the candle of grassroots credibility at both ends. Risky business.

Forty-one senators have pledged to filibuster any bipartisan spending bill that includes an amendment to strip federal funding from Planned Parenthood, threatening an impasse with House conservatives.

The group, led by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), includes thirty-nine Democratic senators and two Independents, Sens. Joe Lieberman (Conn.) and Bernie Sanders (Vt.)…

The group outlined their opposition in a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and GOP leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), asking Reid and McConnell to “stand with us against extreme proposals by some members of the House to eliminate support for women’s health and family planning programs and providers that service millions of women and families.”…

Reid has already declared the Planned Parenthood rider would not be part of a final deal with the House on 2011 spending levels.

Remember, Brown, Collins, and Murkowski also oppose defunding Planned Parenthood and there are surely other Democrats who didn’t sign Boxer’s letter who’ll vote with her if it comes to that. So realistically, there’s no way this is getting through the Senate. And needless to say, if he and Reid can agree on a budget in all major particulars, Boehner isn’t going to endanger that by threatening to force a government shutdown over an issue as narrow and hot button as abortion. So he has four options here. (1) Trade one red meat provision for another. If the GOP drops the Planned Parenthood rider, Democrats agree to defund NPR. Easy peasy! (2) Drop all the red meat stuff in exchange for deeper cuts. Boehner’s already insisting that $33 billion isn’t enough, so maybe that’s already in the works. (3) Split the riders off from the main budget bill, pass them separately in the House, and have Reid give them a separate up-or-down vote in the Senate. That would be Boehner’s way of showing the base that he’s bringing their concerns to the floor, but since the only leverage he has in getting them passed is leaving them attached to the main budget bill, splitting them off would be tantamount to dropping them altogether. (4) Start frantically downplaying the significance of this year’s budget, which is after all small potatoes, and soothe the base with reassurances about how epic Paul Ryan’s 2012 budget is going to be. Maybe have Ryan hold a presser at which he repeats, over and over in dulcet tones, “Four trillion. Four trillion. Four trillion…”

Exit question: Failure to defund PP = nifty fundraising tool for the NRSC among social conservatives next year?

This SHOULD be an easy battle to win.

Conservatives (which may or may not include Republicans), need to spend a few dollars on high resolution, color images capturing the absolute horror that is the cash cow of Planned Parenthood.

But, such blunt candor, might offend some in their Royal Court of friends.

You state you met their cuts by 73 billions but you will not cut abortion paid for by tax payers so can you tell us why you think it is important that people who pay taxes should pay for a baby to be killed and it is not their baby either?

OFF YOU GO PRESS AND FOX there are 3 question, 3 real ones not your love fest crap

I will support taxpayer funding for the abortion provider Planned Parenthood the moment Congress supports a national season for the hunting and shooting of attorneys, and politicians. Abortion violates the fundamental declared principles of the Declaration of Independence and Planned Parenthood is the nations provider of abortion Saying they will not use taxpayer funding for abortion is like believing American foreign aid to some despotic regime will not be used to support violence or abuse.

Planned Parenthood is a billion dollar business that rakes in 1/3 of its budget from state and federal govt grants---tax dollars. Congressional Dems interrogated banking, energy, health insurance, tobacco, and oil execs — treating them like serial killers. When will Dems finally vote to defund a corrupt industry that has the blood of innocent, defenseless babies on its hands?

PLANNED PARENTHOOD'S RAMPANT GOVERNMENT FRAUD

The US Inspector General found that NJ Planned Parenthood falsified Medicaid claims to get their hands on $2.9 million tax dollars they were not entitled to.

Planned Parenthood of the Inland Northwest will pay the state $345,000 after settling a 2009 audit that uncovered the clinic used incorrect codes and provided insufficient documentation for some claims billed to Medicaid.

It is estimated that the Spokane PP family-planning organization improperly billed Medicaid more than $629,000 for 333 patient procedures from March 2004 through February 2007. During that time, the clinic collected about $7.6 million from Medicaid.

Planned Parenthood California is under criminal investigation for billing taxpayers high prices for birth control equipment that they obtained on the cheap.

The Picower Foundation, one of PP's biggest financiers, was in cahoots with Ponzi thief Bernie Madoff, and was forced to give back $9B that was apparently part of a money-laundering, tax evasion deal that got Picower an unlikely 900% return on investment.

PP is also suspected of aiding and abetting underage sex abuse, and suspected of participating in cover-ups----performing abortions on underage teens who were impregnated by older males, and failing to notify authorities. PP clinicians apparently covered up sexual abuse of underage teens by falsifying federal documents in order to receive federal funds for performing underage abortions. That would be classified as govt fraud.

Boehner is an absolute idiot if he doesn't tell Harry Re3id to shove it. 33 billion is so tiny a cut that it is basically insignificant. Why even bother? Boehner and the House Republicans should call Harry's bluff and spend big bucks on TV ads making sure the American public knows that the senate Democrats (and a few liberal 'Republicans') will 'shut down the government' over the issue of keeping federal taxpayer money flowing into Planned Parenthood's abortion mills 'as a matter of principle'. The ridiculous fear from Republicans over a government 'shutdown' is indicative of their Beltway mentality that assumes the government beast must be continuously fed and stroked or havoc will ensue. Nonsense. Grow some, Boehner. Taxpayer-funded abortion-on-demand is incompatible with constitutional values and must be eliminated. It's the very least we can do and if Boehner is going to waffle on this, he is less than useless.

Also note who the DNC counts on support them with votes. They have achieved an interesting balance here. They want to exterminate (abort) some of their base but they need the votes. So they figure out how many new voters they need in the future, secure enough funding for PP to exterminate the rest and then that portion of their base is stablized (a ‘steady state’ condition). Of course, they have certain ‘leaders’ that will tell that portion of the base that the ongoing extermination campaign is a good thing. Keep them dumb, dependent and population controlled and they will vote for you forever.

Reminds me of this:

1) Teach the Polish children to count up to 500.
2) They do not need to learn to read or write.
3) They need to be taught to obey their German masters.

Himmler’s plan for Poland...

Showdown: 41 Senate Democrats vow to filibuster budget if it defunds Planned Parenthood

We'll see how this goes for the next fiscal year. These are the options:

If the Republicans are successful in passing their budget, then there will be no federal funding of Planned Abortionhood.

But, if the Democrats are successful in filibustering the GOP budget, then there will be no federal funding of Planned Abortionhood.

I don't see a problem here. btw, is that Standard-bearer of the Pro-Life movement Bob Casey [sic] joining the filibuster?

Is there any news about NPR? I thought that outfit was also targetted for defunding together with PP...

I didn’t think a “budget bill” could be subject to a “filabuster” because the budget is a constitutional duty of the congress. Anyone know for sure?
