Libertarians say Paul Ryan is worse than Bill Clinton
The Libertarian Party ^ | April 5, 2011 | The Libertarian Party

WASHINGTON - In response to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's new budget proposal, Libertarian Party Chair Mark Hinkle issued the following statement today:

"Americans hoping to get real about our national debt just got sucker-punched by Republican Paul Ryan.

"Republicans want to spend $40 trillion over ten years. That averages a staggering $4 trillion per year. As recently as 2000, federal spending was only about $1.8 trillion.

"They also want to increase the federal debt from $15.0 trillion to $23.1 trillion. I hope our children and grandchildren enjoy paying interest on that extra $8.1 trillion.

"People should not judge the quality of this Republican plan by the standard President Obama has set. Everyone knows Obama is a big spender. Democrats rarely campaign on cutting government. What this budget shows is, Republicans are hypocrites. They have no intention of cutting the federal government down to size. In 2021, Paul Ryan still wants the feds to be spending 19.9% of GDP. That's a higher percentage than during Democrat Bill Clinton's second term. In 1997, federal spending was 19.5% of GDP, and it dropped to 18.2% by 2000. Paul Ryan is worse than Bill Clinton.

"Another unfortunate but predictable thing about Paul Ryan's budget is that it continues to mollycoddle the Pentagon. Paul Ryan is the Military-Industrial Complex's best friend. He apparently can't find one penny to cut from Obama's bloated levels of military spending. Only a big-government Republican could come up with language like 'reinvesting $100 billion in higher military priorities.'

"It's interesting that when the Republicans controlled both houses of Congress and the White House from 2001-2006, they did nothing to shrink government, or even slow down government growth. On the contrary, back then, Paul Ryan was busy voting for expensive foreign wars, No Child Left Behind, and the huge 2003 Medicare expansion. More recently he's voted for the TARP bailouts and even ethanol subsidies.

"We Libertarians propose eliminating federal functions that are not authorized in the Constitution. Furthermore, Libertarians propose ending foreign wars and foreign troop deployments, allowing huge cuts in military spending. Libertarians would cut the federal government down to less than 10% of GDP, and we'd keep cutting once we got there."

In two years the US dollar will be worth a tenth what it is today.
Fuel pumps will have to add another digit or change to measuring in liters.
A real copper penny will be worth over 50 cents.
Even a zinc penny will be worth over 25 cents.
The brass dollar will be small change.

That’s one way to make the drug industry $100 notes worth a gallon of fuel.

I’ve always said tax me for highways and the military. That would leave us all enough bring home pay that we could pay for all the entitlement programs ourselves.

Indeed he is. Paul Ryan has proposed a good budget plan.
Consider what the democrats have done!

LP Executive Director Wes Benedict actively worked to defeat Republicans in Texas, split Republicans internally by fomenting divisions in party conventions, ran against a conservative Republican himself with a sole goal to defeat him and get the Democrat elected (which happened), and has been an enormous help to Democrats in Texas.

His pansy-ass lies here are true to his GOP-hating form.

“Well, what is it in the statement that isn’t true?”

The LP’s biggest lie is about how they would do so much more if they were in power.

BS. you cannot get under 10% of GDP without abolishing SocSec and Medicare and Medicaid immediately.

Do you honestly think that would happen? They would do it if elected? That’s why they get 1% of the vote. No, it wouldnt happen, they are blowing smoke up your rears on that.

Rep Ryan asked the question “What could REALISTICALLY be done to save our nation’s finances?” He came up with a very solid proposal and for the LP to criticize the BEST idea to come out of DC in a long time shows their bad judgement and cluelessness.

(hmmm, where are their criticisms of the Democrats - see Wes benedict doesnt hate liberal Democrats/socialists like he hates the GOP, he’s out to destroy the GOP, so the pesky pro-USA pro-military traditional values people that make the backbone of this country would get out of the way so Wes can enact his dope-addled libertopia.)

The LP folks live in la-la land indeed.

It means that if you don’t try to get it all you won’t get it. I agree that the odds are not good, but by at least asking for what needs to be done we will have done all that can be done and may reset the terms of debate so that what needs to be done can be done in time.

The Ryan plan is timid, inadequate, and cowardly. That also sums up the Republican Party. I generally vote for the Rs, but it reflects a triumph of wishful thinking over experience.

My prognostication is that because of the corruption of the character of the American people we are headed toward civil unrest sparked by economic collapse. When? Within the next decade - maybe sooner than later.

This has nothing to do with the question. What did they say about Ryan’s plan that is untrue? I suspect what they said about the Ryan plan is all true, but would be happy to be wrong.

On a separate note, would you object if someone abolished Medicaid, SS, and Medicare? Also, do you believe that they are Constitutional? Or are you just saying that it is unlikely that it could be done?

Really? So when did I lie? And exactly what is your conservative level, if this is a challenge, as a red blooded American conservative, bring it! (leave your emotions at home, and get ready for homework on American Political History, non-revised, all original source).

Fricn rats on the board

“Conservatives say Libertarians are worse than Democrats”
given the seller track record of theses same “Conservatives” it is hard to take them at their word eyther about libertarians or about the claim that they are “Conservatives”.

Paul Ryan and the republicans are selling a sad joke. they are selling a cut that amounts to a mere 5% of THIS YEARS deficit. Never mind the debt, or the fact that we know the deficit will grow with the aging baby-boomers and the welfare state.

This hear their most “ambiguous cut” is a mere 5% of the deficit NOT the federal budget, the Deficit! The amount we are spending THIS YEAR in excess of what we take in!

Don’t get me wrong I think our Federal Government is broken beyond repair and i never expected to get much out of them, but of course by that I did not expect we would get this little.

This is an insult to our intelligence and they are letting the democrats get away with calling it “extreme” draconian cuts.

If the Republicans don’t want to even make a serous effort to cut the Federal Government down to a size we the people can afford to support, then we might as well help the Democrats crash it.

Better to crash this out of control car closer to home where we can better get back on foot then slow it to continue to carry us way out into the country. Shut down the Federal Government and if you can’t bring yourself to do that, then cripple and destroy that monstrosity all together.

We can rebuilt it this time without the leftist scum of the socialist Yankee states.

You have to start somewhere.

sorry, but his budget isn't the place.

The military is one of the few constitutionally correct expenditures by the Federal Government. It does not need to be cut, but expanded.

Ryan is a coward!

No kidding. It's easy to say anything you want to from the sidelines. Libertarians would cut the federal government down to less than 10% of GDP, and we'd keep cutting once we got there. - that especially does not make sense - sort of like Buzz Lightyear's "To infinity - and beyond!"

Yes, it is important the the United States spend more on defense than the rest of the world combined. That way we can go broke, and be unable to even defend America. The secret to us winning the two world wars was............we allowed ourselves to rest instead of being on continuous alert. We are like Britain was in 1910, interventionist and spending more than they could possibly avoid. It is time to come home from everywhere, and concentrate on US.

Yep, this country is going off the cliff, mainly because pretend conservatives, which are the majority among Republicans, and on “conservative” forums, cannot support the ideal of a balanced budget. Everyone is so worried about “their side” winning, that they forget that by the time we grab control of the “bus” it will be airborne and ready to crater.

I would say that you take a shot, the only shot we may ever have. Shut down the government, take the case to the American people every night by spending whatever capital is necessary to do so. Show America what the “world” will look like after bankruptcy, and the World band IMPOSING its will on Americans and the politicians we so proudly say are part of a “Free Country” lolololololololol.
