Yes, I noticed that, but watch out for a federal license. My friend works for the NY Dept. of Environmental Conservation. He said that the NY saltwater fishing licenses were in lieu of one from the feds.

Here in NJ a previous governor floated the idea of requiring saltwater licenses for the Jersey Shore; the idea was quickly beaten down due to the fact that it is too easy to avoid NJ altogether if one wants to fish in the ocean, and the fact that the government doesn’t stock the ocean (the way it does for some bodies of fresh water, which is paid for from the license revenue). NJ does require a regular license in some rivers that feed to the ocean, though they set a boundary below which it isn’t required (it is considered salt water). The problem in NJ is that you can’t eat much of what you catch; the signs warning against it, which were in English when I was younger, are now also in Spanish & Portuguese as well.

it turned out to be a one year deal...I bought them for me and my college age kids last year...I know my brother took his family fishing without them...as the DEC did not investigate people giving them a pass for the first year
