Donald Trump sent Nancy Pelosi warm wishes when she was sworn in as House Speaker in January 2007, praising her as "the best" in a personal note.
Trump, whos now mulling a Republican run for president, penned the note on a copy of a New York Times article that chronicled Pelosi's swearing-in, and wrote, "Nancy you're the best. Congrats. Donald," according to sources familiar with the missive.
Pelosi lost the Speaker's gavel in January, after Republicans retook the House in the midterm elections. Pelosi, plagued with low approval ratings in in many districts, was widely pilloried by Republicans during the congressional races, and she was used as a pivot point for many of the candidates.
Trump, now a registered Republican, is a former independent and former registered Democrat. And the Pelosi note is a reminder that he has a past political history of supporting both sides of the aisle.
Trump confirmed to POLITICO he wrote the note, but said it was "because I want her to do great, and I want this country to be great, and I [didn't] want her to fail as Speaker. And I like her."
I met her a number of times and I liked her, he added. And I really want her and everybody in office to do great. so because of the fact that i met her a number of times and really liked her, and then she became Speaker, I sent her a note.
And I wanted her, and I continue to want her and everybody else in office, to do great for the country. ... I get along with everybody. I'm very proud of that. I get along with all of these people. Some I get along with better.

*snicker*....Trump’s popularity is worrying the libs.
There are sure a lot of TDS’ers out there. About as many as the PDS’ers. My tagline says it all
I still don’t understand how Politico stories get posted here. Were you just over at Politico reading it?
I won't, however, hold my nose and vote for McCain, Romney or Huckabee come the next general if they get the nomination. People want my vote, they can campaign for it this time.
It is all way too convenient. All this birth talk, just as Obama has major domestic and foreign policy failures. MSNBC (Imelt-GE) is falling all over itself to interview him.
Conveniently, he can't leave his TV show to declare his candidacy. Interesting how strong Palin and Bachmann fare with the Tea Party faithful and Trump- a major Democrat supporter of the liberal left (in New York no-less) has somehow seen the light. Horse puckey.
If you were a moderately-intelligent person in the ‘90s & didn’t leave the democrats then, then you are SET. You knew what you were getting then.
The democrats left Reagan and that makes sense. Someone might even claim that for the late ‘70s.
I mean if someone has some kind of personal epiphany that they want to tell us about, then fine - I believe in conversions. But this isn’t a conversion.
I don’t disagree - The Donald is a clown, although a rich one.
He didn’t say what she was “the best” at.
“Keep your friends close, but your enemies even closer.”
Eeeeekkkk!
Look at his campaign contributions to see which way he leans.

*snicker*....Trumps popularity is worrying the libs.
The fact that he has become popular by championing the birth certificage issue is what has them worried.
Without Obama’s birth certificate scandal, Trump would be the also-ran’s also-ran. With it he’s out polling the establishment favorite Romney.
But you aren’t the poster. What?
Just pointing out that the story is linked to from Hot Air. And Mark Levin mentioned it also.
Doesn’t mean Freepers are on Politico. But so what if we were?
“Doesnt mean Freepers are on Politico. But so what if we were?”
That’s fine! Who am I to judge what someone does in his spare time! lol. Be proud! Be who you are! “We’re here, we’re politico readers! Get used to it!” eh!?
A lot of folks can’t recognize sarcasm! < /sarc >
I’m impressed that Romney’s camp works this quickly. A day ago a poll came out showing the Donald catching up to Romney in NH and the very next day this story drops. Trump seemed to be getting traction with the “birther” issue and this is a move to cut out his legs among conservatives who dominate the primary.
The shadown GOP primary goes on.
I know there are other former liberals on FR besides me- when they converted I do not know. I was too young to have been interested in politics in the 90s and I am relatively new to conservatism. As embarrassing as it is to admit it, I even fell for 0’s schtick. Then I really saw the light. Funny thing was even as I pushed the touchscreen for 0 a little voice in my head said, “You know this guy is either the hope of America or the slickest oil salesman you have ever met.” I should have listened to that voice.
While it’s true that conversions happen more frequently when 1 party really screws up, each one is a personal journey. For some people it’s a gradual thing, for others it’s a single “Aha!” moment. Expect to see more young ex-Obama voters on FR, particularly if 0 is elected to a second term.
