Pocketbook Concerns: Prices Matter More than Jobs

With the public growing more anxious about the economy and concerned about overseas commitments, Barack Obama’s job rating has edged lower.

About as many now approve (47%) as disapprove (45%) of the way Obama is handling his job as president. In March, opinions about Obama’s job performance were more positive; 51% approved of his job performance and 39% disapproved. The current measure is similar to Obama’s ratings from last fall through early 2011.

Gas prices rise, Obama's approval shrinks - it's not a coincidence.

What happened to Obama’s Tucson bounce? That was orchestrated to be his “Oklahoma City” moment, a la Bill Clinton. What happened?

Well, at least we’ve all learned the lessons of civility from Tucson which the liberals urged us to learn. (sarcasm)

Obama's attempt to model himself after Billie isn't working too well these days.

He's likely piqued that Clinton got away with the Gov't shut-down rhetoric but polls are showing that it's not working for him.

Poor Bammie.

No wonder he wants a shutdown. He needs something to blame republicans on...

Well...he did say if you don't like high gas prices you should consider a trade in. I'll trade him for Michele Bachman.

Be patient the Won says. As soon as Government Motors unveils their new car for the 21st century, the Chevy Wind, powered by a giant sail and wind from a billion union workers we'll be able to thumb our noses at those greedy combustion engine energy producers and the economy will be wonderful and unicorns will crap skittles.

The difference was that at the time of Oklahoma there was nothing else going on. There was no war, there were no riots, The economy was already recovering. So when OKC happened that was all the news there was.

He had his bounce, right up until Egypt and Libya slammed him back down to earth again. Now we have gas over $4.00 and people are getting a concrete kick in the gas about how Obama's fumbling in the Middle East impacts them. Inflation is no longer just some theory, people are seeing it at the grocery store. It is getting Jimmy Carter style real.

Job approval is far too high. Risk of reelection is immeasurable.

The laughing about it will hurt him, even though the AP tried to scrub it from later articles

The analysis in this report is based on telephone interviews conducted March 30-April 3, 2011 among a national sample of 1,507 adults

Not even registered voters, it looks like Trump can even beat odumbo

"Job approval is far too high. Risk of reelection is immeasurable."

Yes, I think that's true. Carter and Bush I both had approval ratings that sank into the 20s at some point during their tenure. Yes, they did rebound, but they never fully recovered. Obama has, I don't believe, ever sank beneath 43% in most polls. That's problematic.

I also think that so long as he enjoys minority support above 90%, it may be (as a practical matter), virtually impossible for him to dip below 40%. That too is a problem.

Why what are you insinuating?

That possibly people will vote for someone on the basis of his race? Why that would be ra...!
