In one of the bills before us, 6 million seniors are deprived of meals homebound seniors are deprived of meals. People ask us to find our common ground, the middle ground. Is middle ground 3 million seniors not receiving meals? I don't think so. We've got to take this conversation from debate about numbers and dollar figures and finding middle ground there to the higher ground of national values. I don't think the American people want any one of those 6 million people to lose their meals or the children who are being thrown off of Head Start and the rest of it.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), April 4, 2011

The day before House Republicans unveiled their long-term budget plan, one-time House Speaker Pelosi held an event with the Hunger Fast Coalition to draw attention to the budget cuts envisioned in the fiscal 2011 budget bill that passed the House earlier this year. The White House and the Senate have been engaged in tense discussions with House leaders over a compromise deal in an effort to avoid a government shutdown later this week.
Pelosis impassioned plea signifies her discomfort at even the thought of compromise. But several readers wondered about the figures she used. Are 6 million poor seniors really at risk of losing their meals or even 3 million under the compromise plan being negotiated by President Obama?
The Facts
The meal programs, which cost about $818 million a year, are managed by the Administration on Aging (AOA), an arm of the Department of Health and Human Services. The House bill would cut $65 million from the approximately $2.4 billion budget of the agency a figure derived from GOP estimates of the savings in the agency from repealing the health care law

I suppose if the seniors lose their meals they won’t come wandering around my store complaining about how high prices are and what we used to carry in the “good old days”.
Yes, please do this. This may be the most over-hyped federal program ever.
FACT CHECKING PELOSI :
* The first problem with Pelosis statistic is that, according to the Administration on Aging (AOA), an arm of the Department of Health and Human Services’ budget documents, only about 2.6 million seniors receive such meals. Thats even less than what she decried as the mushy middle ground of compromise.
* She referred to 6 million seniors, 3 million seniors and 6 million people. We understand slips of a tongue, but three times in a row, so emphatically, is hard to fathom (IOW, she’s LYING ).
* The administration requested the elimination of $6 million in earmarks, so it seems strange for Pelosi to call that a Republican cut. That should not be included, leaving us with $65 million in possible cuts.
* In the administrations 2012 budget request, President Obama identified $150 million in cuts to the agencys budget. It seems that those already-identified targets would be a more logical place to start looking for trims than meals for senior citizens, most of whom have incomes of less than $20,000.
* The agencys budget justification notes on page 55 that it has kept spending on senior meals essentially flat from 2010 to 2012, resulting in 36 million fewer meals for senior citizens. Thats six times higher than the figure that Pelosi has decried as an affront to national values.
WE SHOULD CALL IT FOR WHAT IT IS -— NANCY PELOSI IS A LYING BLOVIATOR.
Hey Nanci, if you continue to spend the country into bankrupcy, we ALL will be missing meals, you schmuck!!! I can’t understand why liberals are incapable of understanding simple economics.
Her purpose is only to throw a rhetorical life-preserver — no matter how unsupported by facts — to her supporters in the press, who will join their braying voices into a chorus and shout down anyone who tries to talk sense to the American people. That’s all she needs to do: provide filibuster material to her Alinskyite amen corner.
Obama with Nancy's approval, chose to use the Meals on Wheels money to help the Libyan Rebels.
Why should millions of seniors be fed by the federal government - aka taxpayers - beyond social security checks?
Lefties create dependency at huge costs and then scream at any action that attempts to reduce it.
As far as the free meals at school... most of the breakfasts I saw as a school nurse some years back....consisted of donuts, cinnamon rolls or sugared cereals. I wouldn't have fed my kids most of that junk. I complained to the administrator about the pizza, hot dogs, etc... on lunches almost every day and was told..."the kids won't eat anything else".
Is it just me? When I went to school we had cafeteria ladies who cooked fresh food. The closest thing we got to junk food was the mac n cheese...(which we loved) and a piece of freshly baked dessert. If kids couldn't pay for their lunches... the PTA had a fund to draw from which covered it or they took up donations.
Talk to a Meals on Wheels driver. More often than not the meals they are delivering don’t get eaten. Just as most of the food for the School Lunch Program ends up in trash bins.
If this thing ever got infected, just briefly, with a bout of conscience, the amount of money that would represent her actual fair share of taxes would feed seniors for a couple of decades.
But don’t hold your breath, seniors. She cares about you...but only to the degree that she can create misery and than exploit it.
Samuel Adams: If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
When will the Dems start using the dog food scare tactic?
