Americans may not like wars in the Middle East but they love the men and women who serve in them. If this story is true, and right now it seems to be, then I think Democrats have just destroyed any hope they had of benefiting politically from a government shutdown. Here’s Ace who is reacting to a story at Big Government:
Apparently, it is within the executive’s power to define “essential” and “non-essential” personnel during a shutdown; non-essential personnel can be furloughed (or at least not paid until the shutdown is over).
But it seems Obama is taking the position — for political reasons — that the military is “non-essential.” They can’t be furloughed, but he has decided (or Gates has; I rather think it’s Obama’s call) that they’ll show up for work but won’t get paid until later.

The military guys that I have working with me just said that their upcoming pay for the 15th has been cut by about 30-40%.
Based on WHAT? How can that happen? That is truly outrageous.
I have no idea. All I know is that there were a lot of angry military guys rushing to look at their LES’s.

The average person has no idea how government finances and appropriations work......that is a big part of the problem. They expect someone to just wave a magic wand and make things happen.
Reality is often quite different.
I definately want soldiers to get their rightful pay and benefits but the point on soldiers pay is moot anyway. If you are not going to fund OPM, there will be nobody to process the bank transfers or send out the checks. So the soldiers won’t get their money anyway.

THEN it follows that there should be no reason for the military not to get paid this time.
Bureaucratic BS just smells. And it won’t sell, to the American public, either.
Yes. I have heard about the military pay cuts. The communists are pushing hard. They want the violent revolt to call for martial law.
Soldiers will get their pay once the shutdown is over. Unfortunately they probably have little or no chance of getting paid while the government is shut down. There simply is no way to do it. You can call it bureaucratic BS but like it or not, it is the law.

I am sure they do want a violent revolt, but there is a saying “Careful what you wish for, you just might get it.”
I don’t know if they will be successful IF they got their martial law. At least I hope they won’t.
