Fox Business ^

In the event of a government shutdown, some 800,000 federal employees who are furloughed without pay may collect unemployment insurance.

Government workers are covered under the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees Program, which is funded by the federal government, but administered by the states.

Generally, unemployment claims are filed in the place where you work, not where you live. The states are reimbursed by the federal government for the funds they pay out.

LET'S DO IT, AND TAKE NOTE OF WHAT WAS TRULY ESSENTIAL TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY OPERATE! THEN PUT IT OUT THEIR IN THE SIMPLEST TERMS FOR ALL TO SEE!

Agreed.

We know at least 100,000 are unessential - the number 'bummer has added to the payrolls.

if we didn't need them before 'bummer, we don't need hem now.

Besides, if all we're laying off is 'nonessential - then indeed, let's weed them out.

It's fast approaching "Atlas Shrugged" time where for every private worker, there's at least one gov't worker and/or welfare/slacker on the dole.

We cannot sustain. Especially when tens of thousands of the real workers have been put out of their previous jobs and are now underemployed and must work even more hours to survive. And they don't get free medical/dental/food stamps, etc.

How long before they give up and head for the hills?

My burning question is "If a shutdown occurs will the TOTUS be furloughed as a non-essential employee?"

So far, no comment from the TOTUS.

. . . . Our elected officials will continue drawing a paycheck.

Pay the Troops FIRST.

DoD Issues Shutdown Rules

With a government shutdown looming, military members and families have anxiously waited for some official word if they would see a paycheck come the 15th of April.

On Thursday, DoD finally announced its shutdown contingency plan for April 9.

The plan confirms that servicemembers and “excepted” civilian personnel will be required to report for duty, but there will be no funds to pay them until the shutdown is ended.

While visiting troops at Camp Liberty (Baghdad, Iraq), Defense Secretary Robert Gates emphasize that

service members eventually will receive their pay if the government shuts down;

however, their mid-month paychecks will include only the pay they earned for the first week of the month – before the shutdown.

“Over time, they won’t lose anything,” the secretary told reporters after the visit. “But you all know as well as I do that a lot of these young troops live pretty much paycheck to paycheck, and when I start to think about the inconvenience that it’s going to cause these kids and a lot of their families, even half a paycheck delayed can be a problem for them...So I hope they work this whole thing out.”

WRONG WRONG WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only way federal employees will get unemployment is if they don't report to work on Monday to sign their furlough letters. If that happens they will be AWOL and it will be a black mark on their record. They know that.

If they report to work on Monday, and if they have to sign furlough papers, then they won't be able to sign up for unemployment compensation until the following week, which by that time a deal will most likely be reached.

Someone in the news needs to get their stories straight and stop branding government workers, a group I belong to, as greedy selfish people. This misinformation is really ticking me off.

This is just about right. Let the furloughed government workers collect unemployment while letting the very people who are actively defending the country go without. What is wrong with this picture?

Plus, and it's a big plus, if you get unemployment you can't get back pay which will save a ton of money and give government employees a taste of the real world.

Since the Federal Program appears to be different from the State programs, I have to ask if we are paying (yes, we, if the FedGov picks up the tab) 'benefits'that are 'awarded' at a rate above the normal rate of unemployment compensation by the States.

In this era of sweetheart deals for Gmmmint workers, it would not surprise me if the Government Employees' unions have somewhere been able to whip up a deal where their members end up with unemployment bennies closer to full pay than the average schmuck, too.
