Obama and family may visit Williamsburg this weekend

If the federal budget stalemate doesn’t get in the way, President Barack Obama is planning to visit Colonial Williamsburg this weekend with the first lady, Michelle, and their daughters, Malia and Sasha.

The White House said in a statement Thursday that it is a “long-planned family trip” to the historic site.

“The president’s priority is working with members of Congress from both parties to avoid a government shutdown,” the statement continued. The family’s plans will change if an agreement is not reached.

Obama is negotiating with Democrats and Republicans in Congress to pass a budget bill in time to avoid a shutdown at midnight Friday.

Jim Bradley, communications manager for Colonial Williamsburg, said he has not received any information about a presidential visit and referred information requests to the White House.

Am I wrong, or is most every trip they take “a long planned family trip.”

I’ve heard those words several times.

And isn’t the College there a virtual liberal Utopia now?

Unfortunately, it probably has descended downward in that regard.

Back in my day, William and Mary was a place where Yankees sent their children to learn Southern grace and manners.

One of my relatives taught in the ROTC program there and, believe me, he was extremely, extremely Conservative. I admired him and even as I write this post, I fondly recall his insights about Franklin Diablo [sic] Roosevelt whom he characterized as America's Stalin. I doubt that he'd be welcome nowadays at W&M.

Obama and family may visit Williamsburg this weekend

So he's so concerned about the 45 families that have plans to visit Yellowstone Park this weekend because the mean Republicans are shutting down the government; and because of this all the roads in Yellowstone, I guess, must be shut down. (For those who haven't been there, Yellowstone is about the size of Rhode Island. There are several hotels which may be government run there, but they are hardly free. Ditto, the restaurants. The only thing visitors, who do pay a nominal fee to visit the park, get for free is advice from ranger stations, or at least that's all I got.)

But what of those families that have plans to visit Williamsburg? (The last time my family was there just happened to be coincident with the Masters.) They are SCREWED. I doubt any hotels will be providing refunds to families frustrated by restrictions the Obama family visit will impose upon their movement in Williamsburg this weekend.

Yeah, well a lot of Americans had stuff "planned" for their families too, but obama's economy screwed that up...

Give me a break! The first domestic trip that he planned with his family is during the government shut down? We must look pretty stupid to him. Maybe he will “bite the bullet and drown his sorrow over Willamsburf in Vienna. What a maroon.

Is this where he and Michelle will vehemently reminisce about their ancestors being enslaved? Just guessing.

Good that Obama can use fuel freely, extorted from the American taxpayer, as he jets about. Meanwhile Obama alerts the taxpayer to get used to it, as gasoline may stay high for some time. (..so buy one of my $50K fuel efficient cars]

Obama at Sharpton event laughs over pumping gas back in the day..and paying off his student loans only a few years ago to Harvard and Columbia.

Q: How did he manage to pay them off????

A: "I appreciate you buying the book! Michelle and I". [uneasy laughter]

Q: Does Obama ever just go to Camp David, like Bush frequented, which was set up to do the country's work in a quiet surrounding? Every president since Franklin Roosevelt has made use of Camp David, [ the Naval Support Facility Thurmont].

It’s a federal park

Williamsburg has nothing to do with the Federal Government. It is operated by a private foundation.

It will be open, except that the visits of ordinary people will be severely restricted, so the Emperor can walk about without fear of his subjects.

•May 13, 2011—Travel from the South Entrance to Grant, West Thumb, Fishing Bridge, & Lake over Craig Pass to Old Faithful open to wheeled vehicles. Also, Tower Junction to Tower Fall opens to wheeled vehicles. The road from Cooke City over Colter Pass to the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway intersection to the Long Lake gate shall open as soon thereafter as possible. For information on roads outside of the park from Cooke City via the Chief Joseph Scenic Highway, travelers in Wyoming may dial 511; those outside of Wyoming may call 1-888-996-7623, or visit the Wyoming Department of Transportation website at http://www.wyoroad.info/ .

Looks like the roads don’t even open for a week. Seems to me the families would have been disappointed either way...

Just taking what the article said and I’m sure O would go to these places to make his point.

“James Perry, public affairs officer for nearby Historic Jamestowne and the Yorktown Battlefield – collectively called the Colonial National Historical Park – said officials have not received any information about a possible visit by the Obama family.

But if the government shuts down Friday night, Perry said, no one will be visiting Jamestown or Yorktown.”

Regardless of what anyone may think of George W. Bush in other regards, he did take modest, comparatively inexpensive vacations back here in Texas at his Crawford ranch. And most of those were actually working vacations.

This month, Colonial Williamsburg; next month, Ireland. Who knows what June will bring for the ever-traveling Obamas?

How about a nice, LONG trip to JAPAN, they can stay free near the Fukushima plant, everyone else has evacuated!

There was nothing about Jamestown or Yorktown in the article. It said the Obama family would be visiting Williamsburg. I've been to WIlliamsburg many times. I've never been to Yorktown and I've only been to Jamestown once as a child. (My recollection is that there wasn't much there, and this was at a time when I had only been taught about Jamestown, and not Williamsburg.)

What a crock. It’s a federal park — it’ll be closed that day. He wants to be one of the people crying outside the gates ‘cause they couldn’t get in ‘cause of the mean ol’ Repubs shut down the government.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner :)

AMEN!

This BOZO has no clue what the office of president is about, nor does he care, since he's only a mouthpiece for the real Anti-Christ!
