Tensions were high at an emergency town hall meeting held by Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., to address concerns regarding a potential government shutdown. Frustrated constituents shouted from the audience, asking the congressman to work longer hours and through the upcoming two week holiday break. A large number of federal workers live in Moran's Northern Virginia district. He mentioned that this was the sixth continuing resolution and attempt to finalize funding to keep the government from shutting down, but said he "saw no reason why [lawmakers] would not keep the government running at the same level of spending for just a few days." According to Moran, each federal agency will use its discretion to determine priorities that would still be funded, and he reminded those present that most federal workers were reimbursed for lost wages the last time the government shutdown. But he added, "you should not take that for granted." Then tensions escalated during the question and answer session. Moran stated that it was House Speaker John Boehner [1], R-Ohio, and the vast majority of new members, many in support of the Tea Party [2], that want to stick to cutting $100 billion from the 2011 budget and that they weren't specific about cuts. Then a retired service member of 27 years stood up and asked Moran why Congress was not in session at the moment. As he spoke he became more passionate about what he believed was a lack of effort on the Congress's part to prevent a shutdown. He continued, bringing up a potential lack of pay that could occur for soldiers serving overseas and became more outraged at the notion of Congress continuing with their Easter break. Moran explained that it was the Republican leadership's choice as to when Congress recesses and debates. "

Sorry about the formatting.....auto-excerpt messed stuff up.
Moran is guaranteed re-election in his very heavily Democrat district. Of course Moran did not explain why the Democrats did not pass a budget when they controlled the House.
Democrats tax and spend, but mainly they spend by borrowing and printing money. But there is a limit to that. Given today's world economy combined with unprecedented irresponsible, unfettered spending, we have reached that limit.
The Democrats simply are not capable of fiscal responsible budgeting; they never have, never.
Why not just pay every legislator a $10,000 payout every time they reduce federal(budget) spending by ten million dollars?
Something tells me they would get richer faster by doing it that way and we'd have a win-win. No more lobbyists by large, and the incentive to get rich would yield immediate results.
Kinda dumb and simplistic, but it's kind of what they do now only inverted. They take bribes to increase spending. For every dollar a re-election campaign takes in, ten are gained by the large contributor.
I don’t live in his district - therefore, I did not vote for him and nor help him get elected. I can’t help it if they are morons in that part of VA!
You have a nice day too!
A few things...
The fedgov is spending more then $3.5 trillion/yr. Reducing that spending by $100 billion is less then 3%. Get over it. If the cuts are. To sensitive/vital areas or services... That would be the politicians efforts to villify those attempting to make the cuts
Additionally, why would ANY govt employees not doing work during the shutdown be entitled to back pay when they return? This isn’t a paid vacation.
Then they’d just keep making huge, expensive projects like ObamaCare, and then repeal them the next year. They lose nothing when they increase spending, and gain $10,000 when they cut it. All it would end up doing is creating instability in our governing process.
Well, he certainly does his best by all the gubmint workers in the district of all places.
I’ve given up. He could be caught in bed with Macauley Culkin and he’d be re-elected.
They got their back pay after the last shutdown.
Just shows the problems we have
People should not be paid for work they did not perform.
I’m tired of paying for these parasites
I will vouch for the truth of that. I heard him called Moron about 18 years ago when a co-worker mentioned it was about time for the Moron to be making his pre-election visit to their church.
So the town council got together and privatized the community and we hired a private security firm to not spend their time figuring out how to manufacture criminals and apply for state grant money in doing so.
As a result, we formed volunteer groups to beautify and landscape, maintain beaches, a golf course, and hired a private turd squeezer to run the sewage plant, taking him two hours a day.
Our taxes dropped by 70%. Our medians were gorgeous. People begged to pay greens fees if they could golf our course. The country club became mandatory as a community association fee and it had a pool, and full restaraunt/bar/banquet facility. It had free babysitting too, which became a real boom for the business.
Long story/short.......There really is nothing the state does for you that you can't do for yourselves. A national defense and interstate commerce regulation are just about all I can think of.
Bingo!!!
Well, you know you can take care of your defense needs yourselves as well...That whole commerce thing has always felt like a pyramid scheme to me anyway...;-)
What is the name of that town? FReepmail me if you prefer?
Of course, no one has ever accused Moran of being a bully:
“Congressman chokes 8 year old black boy”

Some things should remain in the public memory.
By constituents who are reelecting their own boss.
