Yesterday, Karl Rove warned Republicans that, depending on how President Obama handles all of the shutdown hullaballoo, it could actually help him with the public. On Hardball today, Chris Matthews and his guests looked into how the President was doing.
While the entire panel agreed that it behooved Obama to appear like a “compromiser” and an adult in a city of bickering children, Matthews pointed out something else that would help him; the President’s pearly whites.
After watching a clip of Obama, this was Matthews’ assessment:

Well, I guess it’s the purple lips that make the pearly yellows appear “pearly white”. Note to contenders: Crest White Strips, and lipstick if you’re a lady.
In old Hollywood, the women used to hate to kiss Edmond G. Robinson because he had purple lips. ‘Liver lips’ they were called.
We once stayed at the Esmeralda Inn in the mountains. The old Hollywood bunch of stars used to stay there. One starlet remarked that Clark Gable used to keep his false teeth in his hip pocket much of the time ‘cause he hated wearing them. Some other actor once asked him, “Clark, where are your teeth?” Gable supposedly answered, “They’re in my hip pocket biting my butt!!” - The final chapter of “Ben Hur” was said to have been written in a room at the Esmeralda.
Interesting.
Some of the stars didn’t like to kiss Gable because of the false teeth, but he seemed to do alright with most of the ladies any way.
I read that James Dean’s two front teeth were false, and he liked to take them out and do nasty things with them.
From many accounts, he was smelly, crude and unkept- also gay.
