Drivers cut back as gas inches toward $5 a gallon
WGN-TV via Chicago Tribune ^ | April 11, 2011 | Pat Curry

The national average price for gasoline is still under $4 a gallon, but many Chicago stations are not far from the $5 mark.

Nationally, prices have shot up 19 cents in the last three weeks to an average of $3.76 for a gallon of regular, according to the latest Lundberg Survey.

But in the Chicago area, prices are generally $3.84 and above, according to a Web site that tracks the highest and lowest prices available.

The Chicago gas station that first broke the $4 mark continues to lead area stations. The BP station in Chicago's Uptown neighborhood is charging $4.59 for a gallon of regular.

There are signs that Americans are cutting back on driving because of climbing prices, reversing a steady increase in demand for fuel as the economy improves.

Gas sales have fallen for five straight weeks, the first time that has happened since November, according to MasterCard SpendingPulse, which tracks spending at 140,000 service stations nationwide.

HusseinCo’s and PelosiCo’s states have about the highest gas tax based upon PRICE in the country. Will the clueless Hussein Heads realize it?

And yet... I still haven’t heard the kind of outrage that was evident when gas got near $4 a gallon under GWB.

I cannot express the depth of my contempt for the media. They have far surpassed lawyers in terms of my “hate list”. And that’s remarkable to me.

They won't. Their souls have been harvested.

I live in San Jose, CA. and had to gas up this morning on my way into work and paid $4.23 (Chevron).

Unbelievable.

So true. Back then it seemed every day while I was getting ready in the morning and had on the news, there was a report of the impact of high gas prices. Each one was basically the same, with a reporter at a local gas station interviewing people who said they could afford to fill their tanks to get to work.

Every single day, it seemed.

Now? Nothing.

The silence of the dems.

We’re exactly where we were in the spring of ‘08. Only thing different is the Marxist in Chief. Last time, the only thing that brought prices down was the Market tanking in September. It’s going to be an expensive summer.

Like a frog in a pot that eventually boils.............we just seem as a society to accept the pricing.

The most amazing thing is that it is all a falsehood. There is no lack of oil, there is no loss of supply.

This is what Trump has been talking about. They refuse to drill here and continue to accept the lies of OPEC and the insane regulations of the unelected in the EPA.

This cloud has a small silver lining. Less gasoline sold = less gasoline tax revenue collected.
On the other hand, spending all our expendable cash on fuel starves spending everywhere else. That hurts business and therefore employment.

NO! The media chooses NOT to report the cost of gas. They pushed for eight years for a financial catastrophe and finally got it in order to elect Obama. Now they have to ignore a true financial disaster in order to protect him.

Unemployment under Obama was at it's lowest the day Obama took office, gas prices where at their lowest the day he took office, inflation was at it's lowest, and so was the debt and deficit.

The man is a failure and his sycophant's in the media protect him.

Read Al Gore’s first book. The book that so interested the uni bomber. I believe Gore mentioned putting the price of fuel up high so people would drive less........and change habits. WE are all being trained by progressives and the new world order to get in line. Get with the program.

“cutting back” = slowing economy = Obama’s ratings going further in the tank.

If the ultimate outcome is to kick Barry to the curb, I will grin and bear it.

The drop in the value of the Dollar is the main reason that commodity prices are still going up. There is nothing false going on as you claim. Drilling here won’t effect what we cannot control during the short term.

Demand World wide is also a controlling factor. In addition to that, as interest rates creep up, the price will keep climbing for commodity prices. This is due to foreign currency being stronger. The final factor may become the loss of the Dollar as the World Reserve Currency. This is the greatest danger for this country and may very well happen.

I’m surprised to see this in the news. When Bush was prez, the impact of high gas prices on the everyday working person was plastered all over the news, constant interviews at gas stations showing the $$$ racking up and the poor person who has to pay it just to get to work. I still haven’t seen a story about the latest high prices on local TV.

NO! The media chooses NOT to report the cost of gas.

People are noticing on their own. They don't need the media to figure this one out. Media spin isn't going to help their family budgets, either. This one hits home.

They refuse to drill here and continue to accept the lies of OPEC and the insane regulations of the unelected in the EPA.

Drilling here will not impact prices. OPEC and such will just cut back on supply. Prices will remain the same.

The only true way to decrease the price would be to cut the taxes on the fuel.

When Bush was Prez the media had one family after another proclaim that “Bush’s gas prices” were starving them.
