LOS ANGELES, April 11 (Xinhua) -- President Barack Obama's approval rate is still high among Latino voters more than two years after he took office, according to a survey published on Monday.
Among Latino voters surveyed, 73 percent said they either strongly approved or somewhat approved of the job Obama was doing, said the poll jointly conducted by impreMedia and Latino Decisions, two non-profit consultancy groups.
Regarding the 2012 election, 41 percent said they were certain to vote for Obama, 14 percent said they would vote for Obama but could change their mind, 10 percent were undecided but leaning towards Obama, and 14 percent listed themselves as undecided/don't know.
When asked if they approved of the job Congress was doing, 12 percent said they strongly approved, 27 percent said somewhat approved and 45 percent said either somewhat disapproved or strongly disapproved.
When asked what are the most important issues facing the Latino community that Congress and the president should address, 36 percent of survey respondents listed immigration reform/the Dream Act and 33 percent said creating jobs and fixing the economy.
Compared with Democrats, the Republicans are disfavored by most Latino voters, according to the poll.
The poll found that 62 percent felt that Republicans were hostile to Latinos and didn't care too much about reaching out to them.
The poorest image of Republicans came from those born in the United States, with just 17 percent of those respondents saying they think Republicans are doing a good job.
While Obama and the Democratic Party are still favored over the Republicans, the results suggested Latino voters are concerned about the current political leadership, resulting in a significant number of voters saying they are undecided about the 2012 presidential election, according to Monica Lozano, CEO of impreMedia.
When asked how well they felt the Republican and Democratic parties were reaching out to Hispanics, 47 percent said the Democratic Party was doing a "good job" versus 21 percent for the Republican Party.
While 27 percent said Democrats "don't care too much" about Latinos and 11 percent said they were "being hostile".
The results indicated a slight drop for Democrats, compared to a poll with the same question in February, when 52 percent indicated they felt the Democratic Party was doing a good job.
"Both parties should be worried," said Lozano. "Data from the 2010 Census reaffirms that Hispanics are a larger and more important voting bloc than ever, and neither Democrats nor Republicans can afford to lose that vote or be perceived as failing to connect to the Latino community."
"Neither party has really done enough to build a connection to Latinos," Lozano said. "Although Democrats are still favored, it is not going in the right direction, and while Republicans have improved their approval ratings with Latinos slightly, it is still not enough to show they have the support needed to win in a presidential election."
The survey involved 500 registered voters between March 24 and April 2 in 21 states with the largest Hispanic populations, comprising 94 percent of the Hispanic electorate.
The margin of error is plus or minus 4.38 percent.
Figures. Idiot blacks and idiot latinos will go for the black guy even ih he promises re-imposition of slavery.
Are we talking about Latino ‘legal’ voters or ‘illegal’ voters?
Culture of corruption....
If I were an uneducated sub literate with a who was raised to hate the United States I would say the 0bama was doing a good job.
In my opinion, both legal and illegal.
Sounds like the groups sponsoring the poll may have an agenda that impacted the outcome. I have no doubt the actual numbers are not favorable, but this seems out of whack
Of course, generally speaking they are lower on the economic ladder and have a lot at stake if the government gravy train (transfer payments) get curtailed.
They no longer think about pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps because the poverty pimps and race hustkers have sold them a bill of goods that they are entitled to other people’s money.
They don’t have to put gas in their car or pay their mortgage/rent because Obama and the Democrats have promised that to them.
It may not be good or great news, but it’s not entirely horrible, either. It does say that he has a 45% disapproval rating amongst Hispanics. That’s a higher number than he enjoys with Blacks and maybe even Jews, too.
Was that legal or illegal voters?
Of course, the Kenyan Clown will be a friend to every enemy of State and scumbag there is.
Racism is alive and well.
Obama brought it back to life and thanks to him and his democrats, it’s probably here to stay for generations to come.
It never had to be this way....
I don’t trust this poll at all. At least twice last year polls came out that the Latinos were disappointed and luke warm at best. What would Obummer have done that would drastically change their minds?
And the GOP establisment boys (Jorge Bush, Juan McCain, Linseed Grahamnesty, Karlie Rove, etc.) want to give them amnesty.
It’s not known as the Stupid Party for nothing.
We must make sure the Republican presidential nominee for 2012 is specific and firm on his/her positions on immigration. Otherwise the changing demographics in this country is going to irreparably sink this republic.
My guess is that it’s a “Che’” thing. They love socialism/Marxism/Communism. Wouldn’t it be great to be able to have those things in the Land of the BIG Pinata!? Barry promises them that! He’s their “hope”.
About 70 percent of Latinos are going to go for Democrats, so this poll isn’t far off the mark. There is dissatisfaction in the Latino ranks though. The way to exploit that is by running Latino conservatives, family values, jobs and creating a better world for their children. None of that has anything to do with kowtowing to the radicals pushing amnesty or policies to encourage illegal immigration. Look at New Mexico’s new governor, and follow her example. Meanwhile, the Tea Party needs to stay energized. Baraka booboo Abu Moostew, Barry, won’t be our next president.
This is one glaring reason why 0bama will be so tough to beat in 2012. One issue above all gets Hispanics’ attention and that is the promise of open borders. They sense the growing weakness of America and as they grow in numbers and power, in time they’ll assume dominion over large parts of the country.
Demographics is destiny, in this case.
Reminds them of home.
I have an Argentine friend who says obama seems to have copied all his campaign speeches directly from Juan Peron. On that reason alone, he sold all his US Dollars.
A large part of that is very likely due to 0bama's failure to secure an amnesty law. He promised it in 2008 and has yet to deliver.
