Real estate mogul Donald Trump is tied for first in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, according to a new poll of Republicans.

Nineteen percent of Republicans named Trump, who is flirting with a run for the party's presidential nomination, as their top choice for the nomination, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Tuesday. Another 13 percent said Trump was their second choice in a nominee.

Trump scored 10 percent in last month's CNN poll, meaning he effectively doubled his support over the course of a month.

Most of the American polity is enamored by celebrity and reality TV, they’d vote for Mr. Magoo if he claimed that Obama wasn’t born in the US.

So what will happen to someone like Trump who is left/liberal/populist? He’ll move further left and further populist. A lot of suckers now are buying his sudden ‘conversion’ ignoring he is a life-long liberal who among other things: supported the assault weapon ban, supported abortion, said amnesty is ‘necessary’, not only supports eminent domain seizures but used them for his own personal benefit, supports socialized health-care, supports progressive income taxes, and is financially tied to George Soros.

People are starting to sound like the Rudy defenders of 2007, ignoring his history of liberalism because he was a media darling.

IMHO,anybody with a reality TV show would poll fairly well.

I think The Donnie is a skinny Jesse Ventura.
Same old populist tripe.

I don't know what to think.

On the one hand, I fear the media has wised up to their pick for the GOP of Romney as not being realistic and has embraced Trump instead.

On the other hand, Trump is saying what I want to hear. And I think he has the skills to be a good President. Specifically, he has recognized where some of the trade probems are and talked tough on it. He has recognized the importance of cheap energy to the economy. He has recently come out against gay marriage, and against abortion. And he has also come out as a Christian saying that Christianity and only Christianity is the way.

I guess my concern comes from Trump's casinos and Trump having supported Hillary, and democrats and Hillarycare in the past.

I'd like to see clarification on where he thinks healthcare should go. And I'm not convinced that this embracement of conservative social values is real and not just a political move.

Still, someone who talks the talk, is more likely to walk the walk than someone who doesn't even talk it.

A lot of Rudy’s issues are because he leans libertarian on things. The point is the comparison. If Rudy falls there, look where Trump falls and realize he is as far from anything we consider Conservative as they come.

The Trump oil salesman comes to town promising hope and change, salvation, cures for male pattern baldness, and freedom from oppression.

Why don’t you at least show a little honesty and post that the site you got this crap from only uses information from 1999-2000, or before. The garbage you keep posting is not only out of date but has little credibility or relevance.

Thanks for that post. It's starting to look like Trump is going to be a significant contender in the primary and we will need to know his real history, bad and good, and not just his current stance.

Sorry don’t agree. Partial birth abortion is a step further then libertarian views. He is even for state funded abortions. If he was libertarian on the issue he would not be for people being TAXED to pay for other people’s abortions. I think your pie charts are backwards. Trump is more conservative on gay marriage and abortion. Two main conservative view points. Think you better try a new pie.

Yet we judge others by their past. Most of the things we complain about Romney were a decade ago. Guess what, history is history, you can’t sweep it aside.

Just because a bunch of people are dazzled by this pop-culture darling and buy into the BS doesn’t mean we ignore his history.

The way things seem to be going, Kim Kardashian could say some positive things and we would have folks here wanting to vote for her. That ‘hope for change’ can blind people.

I sure am not going to stop pointing out his history of liberalism, even if the suckers complain.
