Real estate mogul Donald Trump is tied for first in the race for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination, according to a new poll of Republicans.

Nineteen percent of Republicans named Trump, who is flirting with a run for the party's presidential nomination, as their top choice for the nomination, according to a CNN/Opinion Research poll released Tuesday. Another 13 percent said Trump was their second choice in a nominee.

Trump scored 10 percent in last month's CNN poll, meaning he effectively doubled his support over the course of a month.

BS...I’ll vote in the primaries against him. No doubt. This poll can only be accurate for those under a rock.

He will be a better President than Jorge Bush.

Now that's what I call a high bar to cross.

All of it will drive conservative Republicans insane too because Trump said today that if he didn’t win the GOP nomination for Pres., he would run as an Independent. Some Republican candidate he would make. Shades of Ross Perot!!! Good bye GOP Presidency.

Trump is not the problem....the problem is that the GOP and GOP Media has moved left.

When I hear someone like Sean Hannity defend Islamic Terrorists...as he did last week over a Christian pastor (the Terry Jones Koran burning)....I know the GOP and GOP Media is no longer conservative

Trump hit a nerve with the Obama Birth Certificate and Eligibility issue...and if the GOP and GOP Media does not go after Obama on this, they will be slaughtered in 2012.

Time for the GOP and GOP Media to get conservative....or the real conservatives will be gone.

Stop whining about Trump....run a real conservative. Trump is gaining because all the potential GOP candidates (except Bachmann) are RINOs and Liberals

So what will happen to someone like Trump who is left/liberal/populist? He’ll move further left and further populist. A lot of suckers now are buying his sudden ‘conversion’ ignoring he is a life-long liberal who among other things: supported the assault weapon ban, supported abortion, said amnesty is ‘necessary’, not only supports eminent domain seizures but used them for his own personal benefit, supports socialized health-care, supports progressive income taxes, and is financially tied to George Soros. People are starting to sound like the Rudy defenders of 2007, ignoring his history of liberalism because he was a media darling.
We better watch Trump, he's a Rat plant. He'll mess up the primaries then if it looks like Obama is in trouble at all he'll run third party. If Trump were running as a Rat everyone on here would be laughing at him.

The way I feel right now, I would vote for Spongebob Squarepants if someone guaranteed me that he was going to be able to send the Kenyan and Sasquatch back to Chicago.

I know many people who have converted. I am a person who had an abortion and converted. I believe the woman in Roe vs. Wade converted. People do convert, and instead of applauding them you condemn them. Donald now has grandchildren maybe that changed his mind. Maybe a friend thought about an abortion and that changed his mind. Maybe he saw or read something on abortions that changed his mind. Only the One above us knows and judges, I strongly doubt you are Him.

Thank you. Rudy is a libertarian-leaner who believes in state’s rights. Just because that manifests more in line with liberalism in NYC than in the heartland doesn’t mean anything about what he’d be in the White House.

Unfortunately, Giuliani is also not much of a communicator or campaigner - I liked him as a potential candidate.

So three years in to the Village Idiot’s Presidency and no Republican has yet actually declared candidacy and those who are in these straw polls do not seem to me capable to beating the Obama machine. Trump can match Obama dollar for dollar, but to what end? Conservatives will stay home. Palin sadly is damaged goods and Bachmann is occasionally a little bizarre. I like both of them but don’t think they will be able to beat the Obama surge. Maybe, and I pray this is the case, the GOP candidate is someone we don’t often think of. Not sure who that will be but I was one of the very few around here pimping Sarah’s name as VP for McCain. So who knows? Trump kinda popped up out of nowhere as a GOP candidate the past few weeks.

The wildcard in all this is gas/food prices. If they keep going up without a 2008 plunge then my pug could beat Obama.

It is rather ridiculous to make a big deal out of a “first” place showing when the number is 19%.
