Fiscal Policy: In the bizarro world of Washington budgeting, Congress has managed to boost 2011 spending by $17 billion while claiming to be making a "historic" $38 billion spending cut.
If you want to know why it's so hard to make meaningful cuts in the federal budget, just look at what's happened with the deal Congress passed Thursday that sets spending levels for the rest of the 2011 fiscal year.
When the budget agreement was announced last week, Democrats complained that it cut spending too deeply, and some conservatives said the $38 billion in cuts didn't go far enough. But what everyone in Washington agreed on was that the deal cut federal spending.
Turns out, it didn't. At least not in any normal sense of the term.
According to a Congressional Budget Office report released late Tuesday, the agreement will result in the federal government spending a total of $1.365 trillion on discretionary programs in 2011. That's $17 billion more than the government spent on these programs last year (and $230 billion more than they spent in 2008.)
Worse still, the CBO's most recent "baseline" budget which assumes that spending simply keeps pace with inflation put 2011 outlays at $1.361 trillion.

Thank you, Boehner, you cowardly shill.
Well non of this can be true! I just saw Boner on the floor of the House say that these claims were not trew! And he had charts! /s
Is this the same Congressional Budget Office, owned by the democrats, that gave Obama the numbers he wanted about ObamaCare? Didn’t they say that adding 50 million people to health coverage would actually save money and not raise the budget?
Is the same democrat owned CBO?
I suspect they’re trying to save Obama’s ass by reporting numbers in his favor to calm his base. After all, that’s what they do.
All of their so-called cuts were bogus. Boehner got rolled (or he was in on it).
There once was a man who sent away for a mail order bride. He picked her up at the train station and proceeded to take her home to his farm - all without saying a word. Well, they get about a mile down the road and the mule up and steps dead in the road. The farmer stood up and cried out:”That’s one”; snapped the whip and got the mule going.
Well, after about another mile, the mule ups and quits again. The farmer, now agitated, shouts: “That’s two.” Well, after getting the mule going again, he quits after a mile. The famer stands up in the buckboard, pulls his shotgun and shoots the mule dead. To which the prospective bride says to the farmer: “Why’d you do that?”
The farmer replied: “That’s one”.
Mr. Boehner: “That’s one.”
Does the Tea Party have any plans to primary Bonehead out of office in 2012? I hope so.
I would love to see him fight for his political life trying to defend his worthless excuse of this budget deal to voters.
Did his lips move?

You guys need to stop posting this stuff. It was a great deal. Really. Honestly. The Republican hacks tolds us so.
Pay no attention to the fact that we funded abortions through planned parenthood, funded left wing propoganda at NPR, increased the budgets of the SEC and CFTC by over $100 million so that they can continue being incompetant and fully implement the Dem loving policies of Dodd Frank, and ........
Oh, sorry, I just puked on my keyboard. However, the RINO’s have assured me this was a great deal. Now move along, all of you purists.
It’s time to face reality on the budget. It is treated like a “guideline”. Does anyone think they have a set amount of money for medicaid, foodstamps, welfare, or social security disability? No. They spend the money as it is requested to honor the obligations.
The Dept of Defense has a set budget to start the fiscal year but they often seek additional or special funding for combat operations. The DOD did not anticipate the Libya conflict so they often eat the initial expense up front with the idea that they will cover it in next years budget or a special appropriation that was not budgeted.
Our government is a wreck. They function as a crack addict with no little self-control and I don’t believe any hard numbers they throw out to the media. It’s bullcrap because they don’t know how much they will spend and when agencies run out of money they often just hold their hand out again to D.C. to get more. That is the way government works.
Anyone that thought the 38 billion in savings truly existed has not been paying attention to our government. It’s a sham. NOBODY knows how much they will spend but it is guaranteed they will spend more than the budget.
They will put the hard choices on our children and grandchildren.
Why lay it all on Boehner? Do you really think that another Speaker would do any better against the President, Senate, RINO’s, and the media?
I am not defending him because I was very disappointed as well but would it have been different with another speaker?
The finances of our government are such a trainwreck that even our elected representatives have no idea what we really spend. I feel sorry for anyone putting their faith in the Grand Old Party to stop this. The Tea Party......maybe, but the GOP has proven they will fail us over and over.

I listened tonight to solid republican, conservative, iraqi veteran Duncan Hunter say that there were really 38 billion in cuts.
Who is lying?
