'I just grabbed the geezer': Hero squaddie seizes top Taliban leader after desert FIST FIGHT
Daily Mail (UK) ^ | 15th April 2011

Face to face with a Taliban bomber after a high-speed desert chase, Private Lee Stephens acted on instinct and adrenalin.

With no time to consider his own safety, he leapt unarmed from his Warrior armoured vehicle, dragged the insurgent from his motorcycle and laid into him with his fists.

Gunner Pte Stephens, 30, from Solihull, did not have time to get his gun. He said: ‘I jumped out and I grabbed the geezer.

‘It was mark one left, mark two right fists. That was it. No weapons, just my hands.’

It was only afterwards that the full significance of his heroics became clear. His prey turned out to be the highest-ranking Taliban captured by regular British forces in Afghanistan, a long-wanted bomb-making expert.

Asked about his actions, Pte Stephens said: ‘My muckers were getting shot at and I thought “I’m not having that”.’

Excellent coverage by the patriotic UK Daily Mail that puts every American media outlet to shame. I check UK Daily Mail nearly every day. They have tons of American readers plus you can often find anti-Obama coverage there that US media will not publish. Dittos for other UK newspapers sometimes but Mail is the best

Now that was my laugh for the day, if not the week.
Good for him. I hope the Brit goes through the rest of his deployment safely.

How dare you insinuate those horrid armed beasts did anything more than impede the peaceful progress of peaceful
Moslems as they go about their asssigned duties. /sarc

I enjoy the Daily Mail too but it’s become SO Americanized. I like to read it for what’s going on in Great Britain, not what Lindsay Lohan is doing. You have to click on British news to get British news!

Of course, I’m sure the hard copy is geared towards British readers.

That said, I’m so happy about the brave soldier who pulled the freak off the motercycle and belted him. Sadly, I’m sure he’ll be put up on charges of abuse!

If he were an American soldier, he'd be punished for not asking permission to jump on the terrorist.

Much of the US media, if they portrayed this, would be worried about ‘excessive bruising’ and pending disciplinary action, not to mention the terrorist broke a nail. The link seems to show they don’t overtly hate their own troops. The story makes me smile.

Man, I hope not! But Private Stephens certainly understood the old Nelsonian proverb that a man could do little wrong by going toe-to-toe with a Tango.

He sounds like a Chuck Norris clone. When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the world down..

This is pretty cool (( ping )).

I will say, though, that if I (or some other people I know) was in the same situation and aware that this “geezer” was a bomb maker, he would have been beaten to death on the spot and shat upon. Absolutely no question.

Yes. I love the story. Sometimes an impulse, and others think it heroic. I believe he just did what he felt was the right and correct thing - it needed doing!

No, it’s not the folks that make that jelly and jam, it just means a pal, a friend, fellow soldier.

Slang in parts of Britain for ‘friend’ - believed derived from Irish ‘Mo Chara’ - My Friend.

The British military are good folk

No argument there - most free-world troops are good folk.

The sad thing is that if one of our guys pummeled a poor taliban bomb maker with his fists, he be up on charges from his own government for cruelty...
