Cutting off services to illegal immigrants easier said than done
Orange County Register ^ | 4/15/2011 | MICHAEL GARDNER

SACRAMENTO – While Gov. Jerry Brown and lawmakers wrestle with the budget crisis, some Californians are adamant that much of the problem can be laid at the feet of people who are in the country illegally.

Their message is: Stop teaching the kids, cut off welfare checks and ship the prisoners back home. That way, billions of dollars spent on services could be put to work cutting the deficit, paying for vital programs and keeping tax increases at bay.

But that's easier said than done.

Court rulings require California to teach every child regardless of citizenship. Ditto for treating emergency cases in the hospital.

Well, they did stop teaching the kids...decades ago, throughout this country.

They're teaching people all over the world that they can come here ILLEGALLY and receive most if not all entitlements and benefits American citizens receive and more.

I would love to see honest reporting on the crime statistics of illegals.

Much of the crime committed by these illegal hordes never gets reported. Like the vehicles stolen for the sole purpose of getting back to Mexico for a family visit. They can't very well take their own cars, can they? Or the seemingly out of control uninsured drivers who, when in a crash will run from the scene because he knows he is here illegally.

I live in San Diego County where these things are truly rampant. It's enough to make me want to leave my home of 30+ years and escape to somewhere where it is both safe and sane. If I could just figure out where that is...

Well, go bankrupt then but don't come asking the taxpayers to bail you out (with all do respect to California freepers, it's not your fault).

Then let the dumbasses on the "courts" pay for this crap out of their own paychecks. There is nothing in the U.S. Constitution that says the American taxpayer is required to pay for education and healthcare for foreigners who are in this country illegally. Not one damn thing. IHMO, the "judges" do way too many recreational drugs.

Well, the governor could force the courts to reopen this case by just announcing that the will of the people, Prop 187, will be enforced immediately. Governor Wilson had supported the law and fought for it in the courts; Gray Davis didn’t bother.

Prop 187 was a very sensible law, passed overwhelmingly by voters who saw a problem and could foresee that the problem would get exponentially worse if not corrected. Thanks to power-hungry judges, the problem was not corrected, and that is one of the reasons CA is in such sorry condition now.

These Democrat skunks are realizing there are no more ways to steal money from the working American citizens in the state.

Actually it is very easy....

Since the courts always rule that “Immigration is a Federal issue”....then make the Feds pay for all Illegal Alien services.

States and local govts should just stop paying for the services to illegals...and make the feds foot the bill.

No state should be funding any illegal alien services as long as the courts claim that any action against illegal aliens is handled by the Feds. Make the feds pay

There’s no good reason California has to provide public services to illegals in California. They could arrange for their doctor visits, education, etc. in nearby Tijuana.

I believe they would gladly pay and increase the benefits. Just borrow more and more to finance it.

This legalistic Mumbo-Jumbo is just so infuriating to the average person. Stop providing assistance to illegal immigrants, period. End of story. WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY!!!

The fact that courts have ruled classrooms, hospitals, and prisons are legally obligated to serve illegal immigrants simply points to the failure and corruption of our legal system. Finally, the constitution needs to be changed so that a child born in this country is not automatically a US Citizen.

And now the required caveat: Yes, illegal immigrants are for the most part good people looking for a better life. I get that. BUT WE DONT HAVE THE MONEY. Also, if they stayed in their home countries, this would put pressure on governments to reform and not send their problems to us.

As for the cheap labor illegal immigrants provide, I mostly consider it to be exploitation. In any case, if the country isn’t willing to pay citizens a decent wage for the hard work that the illegal immigrants do, then simply get a guest-worker program where ‘guest-workers’ are legally paid crappy wages with no citizenship implied. Seriously, at least lets be honest and up-front about what we’re doing.

And, by the way, I’m not against legal immigration. My best friend from college was a legal immigrant from Mexico. He’s great. This stuff is so common sense, you’d think it would have been handled back in the 1970’s.

Well, there you go. The problem has been identified. I’m sure the legislature has a toolbox filled with solutions it can use. And if people are too dumb to elect legislators willing to use those tools, a secondary problem has been identified.

Cut off the services and tell the courts to go to hell. Use the NG if necessary to enforce your will on ‘em. If there is going to be a civil war, it might as well start here...

it actually is simple - some illegal shows up to steal services like schooling or health care or welfare, etc, etc - arrest them and de-port them - problem solved.
