He will not run as a third party if the GOP person can defeat Obama .
But if the GOP has a weak candidate ( hello Romney,Daniels , Pawlentry< Huckabee ) who is polling behind Obama and his internal polling shows he can defeat Obama then he will run.
He has said a few times its all about stopping Obama !

That is not accurate. Rush played a clip of Trump this weak, stating that if he didn’t get the Republcan nomination, he would run as an independent, which he said made him “sad” because it meant he wouldsplit the vote and Obama would most likely win.
This bizarre audio bite prompted Rush to respond “Then why are you DOING it???”
Trump is a spoiler. Bank on it.
